This MB approval system for passenger car engine oils has
been consistently further developed since its introduction.
Today, our customers have an adequate choice of options
with the engine oils on sheets 229.1, 229.3, 229.31, 229.5
and 229.51 of the Mercedes-Benz Specifications for
Operating Fluids so that they can decide for themselves on
a particular quality level and an optimum engine oil for their
operating conditions.
The use of Sheets 229.1, 229.3, 229.31, 229.5 and 229.51
in certain passenger car gasoline engines and diesel
engines (model series 100, model series 200, model series
600) is explained in greater detail in Sheet 223.2.
Which engine or which vehicle can use which oil quality
over which oil change interval is also listed in the constantly
updated Service Information for passenger cars: "Engine oil
change" SI18.00-P-0011A.

If you read the above spec (S118.00 P 0011A) then 229.5 or above covers all passenger vehicle (car) engines. Yes you can go lower spec, but why?

Because for some cars there is no benefit in running over specced oil?

Because some oils are a third the price of other oils?

Hi all, just went to use this offer and got confused with all the mb specs.

Had a look at the bevo thing, and couldn't really find anything useful (that I could see anyway).

Can anyone advise what SPEC oil I need please, as want to get an order in as need to service next week.

If anyone van offer ideas to which oils would be a good choice for UK, that'd be grand. It all gets a tad confusing, far too many options, too much choice.

Cheers all,

Upex

Hi Upex!

If you enter the reg on our site - it should do the hard work & recommend the oils which are suitable for your car. Alternatively let me know and ill have a look for you!

thanks ECP

Thanks for that. I used the reg and got a full set on order.

It'll be wet and lube it some, so can't be too far off the mark.

One thing I did note, the atf filter and pan seals aren't included in the sale. Are these not classed as service items? As would have order a couple of each to.

Thanks for the help and discount. Happy Easter!

The same principal could be applied to tyres... :dk:

Chinese ditchfinders, or premium quality? A matter of personal choice.

However there is still a significant market in the middle - somebody who appreciates that they want a set of tyres that work well, and do NOT want ditch finders - however they don't want to pay the branded price for what they see as a small gain.

Because of this some brands have flourished such as Falken, Avon, Kumho etc....

Oh common! Lets have May Day discount sale!

I just missed the party! Damn
