Yes ..... but who blew who out at the last moment the last time?

:p

Sites looking good Ian. Hope all is going to plan so far. At some point there will be a C43 heading your way for a gear box oil change :D

Only thing I would say. Going pre 1995 is always going to in the long term be a limited market as the vehicles get older and more got to the scrap heap car heaven. Although people would be willing to travel from furthur to go to a well known specialist. Just thinking for the general servicing it could be worth looking at a more general Mercedes domain rather than model specific.

Thanks Shaun, you have a very valid point. Yes I will service more modern cars and I will replace items on them. What I want to avoid is all the diagnostics on them that require a Star or other machine. So far as newer cars are concerned I have changed a W208 gearbox, Done a CLK 320 plug change, a couple of W208 oil changes and today a CLK55 AMG set of hand brake shoes (not for the faint hearted). I am quite willing to do that sort of thing, however I like to think my expertee lies in the older breed where old fashioned engineering and knowledge of thing mechanical are concerned.

Had a text picture from Ian today, the new place looks GREAT, FAIR play to the man!!

I think you are being silly! It is possible to pick up second-hand or aftermarket diagnostic equipment and from what I hear/read they are not that difficult to operate. Investing in this equipment may open the doors to a lot more customers and will allow you to diversify.

Thanks Nick, no I am not being sarcy. You have a valid point. But first I need to walk before I run. Maybe in 6 months time when I am established in one field then I could possibly look at another. I am not writting this notion off.

Best of luck with the new venture, Ian.

I'll be dropping you a line in the not too distant future when I have the pennies available for an ATF fluid and filter change if thats the kind of job you'd be willing to do.

i agree ian, I saw a Snap On Diagnostic tool go for £800 on ebay with 2006 software and connectors for every car.
These hand held units will show 99% of fault codes and can erase them..

I used one myself last week, so easy to use, i had a airbag light on a W210, it told me the seat pad sensor was faulty, i changed this and hey presto..

I think you could be limiting yourself greatly by not having one of these toys..

Snap on do them new for about £3500 but you can pay monthly if it helps...

There are lots of other companies doing them too...

Santok in coventry uses one that has a printer on board which is great as you can show this to customer to prove the fault exists and your not rippping them off!

Good luck matey!

I think a GTG will be in order to celebrate the grand opening...

I am game for a dirty hands GTG in September when my brand new 2 post ramp is installed. Throw the idea arround a little and see who would be interested.
