Hello, Bought my 63 plate c class c180 about a year ago. It's currently on 52k miles, extraordinarily smooth and lovely to drive. But I went to my local Mercedes dealer and I was quoted £817 for an A service! Why is it so expensive? Other Mercedes owners have been posting threads saying the A service cost them about £250?

There’s plenty of this on the forum with the search function, but the number that accompanies the letter will refer to additional items that are due alongside your minor service. It’s these, that hike the price up

They may have checked the car's digital service record and found the following possible omissions/requirements
brake fluid change
airfilter change
fuel filter change
automatic transmission fluid +filter change [70k or 5 years ]- my guess its due/ never been done
add on VAT at 25% and it soon adds up assuming your quote includes VAT
Message them queerying costs and asking them for a detailed breakdown of additional service operations they propose. In the meantime enquire on the forum for contact details of an alternative MB specialist local to you-who may propose the same operations but at reduced labour rates

Since you are out of warranty you should find a respected indie who knows Mercs. Then you can build a relationship for future services.
A service is the most basic. Oil, filter and inspection. Then come the variables like ATF etc
