All C43 AMG owners - What shall I do?

Interesting

My tyres are the following sizes

255/35/zr19 96y
225/40/zr19 93y

I could not find all weather tyres in these sizes

Try Camskill Tyres, they have plenty of different manufacturers in stock and even have MO tyres for the rear.......by the way you won't get Z rated tyres, as most winter tyres have a lower speed rating.

Well would you Adam and Eve it... I have just phoned MB dealership and they confirm that they have been given notice by MB HQ to fit replacement all-season tyres to the C43 Free of Charge. These are all-season and not winter only so good for all year driving conditions. I am not sure whether to laugh or cry. This work will be done as part of the my first A service later in the month. Will keep you posted. Power to the people.
Not a fix though is it, MB are just maskng the issue. For the life of the car all owners are going to have to do the tyre waltz whenever tyres need replacing. Surely a performance vehicle needs performance tyres not "jack of all trades, masters of none" all season tyres.

Those are winter tyres not all season tyres.

I’m going to wait and see what these tyres are like in the summer.

Maybe continental 5p’s are worse than other brands

Hi, late to this party and am thinking of buying a e43 amg hence my interest. I had a short test drive in the e43 saloon and must say I didn't notice the crabbing. It was on 20 inch tyres.

Is the crabbing on the 4matic cars worse than that on Porsches? The reason I ask is that I have a 911 and that 'crabs' and I can live with it. I had a brand new Boxster as a courtesy car a few weeks back and that was even worse than my 911.

Thanks very much.

Is it a 4wd 911? I’ve driven a couple of 4wd 997/991 and the crabbing on my E43 on 20” + summer tyres was worse than the 911s. However on winter tyres and 19” it’s much, much better. Hardly detectable.

Yes its a 4wd version 991 but the Boxster I had as a courtesy car is of course 2wd and crabbing felt at least as pronounced on that (if not worse)

I wonder why I didn't notice it on the e43 I drove?? Perhaps I never used extreme lock...

Hmm, I should probably go and test drive the car again before I purchase. I really don't want to have the faff (and expense) of changing tyres/wheels every 6 months.

But if its about the same as my 911 I can live with it as it has no impact during 95% of your driving.

Took the car to my local MB dealer for the tyre swap yesterday. All 4 tyres changed FOC; they even have wrapped and given me the 'old' tyres that have only got 2k miles on them! The crabbing seems to have disappeared! The turn into my drive is a very tight 270 deg and with the old tyres the crabbing was significant; not even a squeal today.

What are these miraculous tyres? From the original comments from the dealer I was told that they would be an all season/all weather compound. They turn out to be Continental SportContact 5 SSR. These are MOE (i.e runlet) which wasn't what I was expecting.

I have both E43 and 981s

Yes they both do it

Doesn’t bother me

Wouldn’t worry about it.

Looked those up. They are run flats and summer tyres. What was on them before?

Is the ride harsher?

Also are you on the 19 inch twinspoke alloys?

I took delivery of a new C43 (S205) last week and I've failed to get it to show any evidence of crabbing at all, despite trying pretty hard. My other car is a 997 GTS C4, so I know all about crabbing. For the record my car has 18" wheels and was delivered on Bridgestone Potenza S001's (summer tyres).

The ones before were Conti SportContact 5P. So what is the difference? These are MOE rather than MO so run flat as opposed to “normal”. Don’t know if there is a difference in the compound as well or is it the stiffer sidewalls that solve the problem? Yes on the 19” twin spokes. I’ve come from a Jag XFS so the ride is much harsher anyway, can’t say I’ve yet noticed if these tyres make it harsher again (early journeys suggest no discernible difference)

Interesting.. What are you going to do with your 'old' tyres? My current tyres Conti 5p's MO have done around 10k so not sure whether these will be good second time around for someone else.....

My car also has 19 twin spokes. Stunning alloys!

The rubber is Conti 5P. Crabbing is a total shocker.

What I’m hearing is this new tyre has solved the issue. If so, I’m making contact with dealer

From a recent conversation with my dealer they said they replaced a couple of C43's before Christmas with Bridgstones but he doesn't know whether I will get the same as perhaps it depends where in the country you are as to what tyres you end up getting, who knows? It's odd as it seems that new cars are being fitted with 'summer tyres' that don't display this characteristic and not 'all season' as is the case with the Bridgstone Potenza's.

I suspect I’ll put them up for sale as they are virtually unused.

It will be interesting to see what others get offered in terms of tyres. Dealer didn’t seem to know what they would send them.
