AMG Bumpers on the SEC!

Car looks great Jay, the kit and wheels finish it off.
If you dp find someone who can bring the skirts over let me know, I need a set of skirts off the same seller for my E36.

yeh not looking good at the moment! I have asked the seller if they will at least package the item so i can arrange courier, but not looking good...

Cars looking good,

Few points imho

1) Drivers door lower trim it that fitted right? looks slightly like door is open at the bottom (picky I know...)

2) The picture of the car with twin twin square pipes again don't look fitted neatly the cut out / gap looks like the pipes are too low. Also imho it looks like they are off a vectra sorry.

3) Ovals I think would suit it better but again fitting them to make them look original

Not sure this is even right but the idea..

I know, ive tried a few times to get that trim right, but as it shuts it always pops back.... one day i will take it apart properly and get it right... for the time being i dont want to break clips and end up having a door with no trim on!

Tomorrow im going to book it in just to have the pipes extended with the tips i have, then ill decide if they need changing...

These are images of a "Factory" AMG conversion. Well, when I say factory it wasn't quite like that back in 1990, but these are genuine parts (also an image of the correct side skirts which are extremely hard to find now (mostly seem to be series 1 skirts on eBay). (This is a 6.0 ltr 4 valve engined car pictured)

*Note the ride height of this car, that's about as low as it can go with a body kit and still be use able car, especially in this country.

That's an American replica kit, the USA bumpers had different shaped kits to the Euro bumpered models, the front spoilers look far more like the ones fitted to the AMG Hammer and the W124's.

Ducktail spoiler looks plain wrong on an SEC, but it worked very well on a CE.

It is wonderful having you on board with your exact knowledge, I enjoy your post very much :)

I'm concious I'm coming across as an anorak!

I've loved the SEC since I first saw one in the early 80's and have always wanted a 560 AMG.

The images of the car above I took from http://www.garagecurrent.com/english/index.html

They have some wonderful original AMG's there in immaculate condition, and instead of going to the lengths I am basically building one from scratch I would have have bought one from Japan and imported it, except they are all left hand drive.

Even though Japan is naturally a RHD country the import tax on non Japanese cars is so punitive, that it's a status symbol to own a LHD car, hence nearly every valuable car out there is a left hooker.

Shame really...

Thanks Mudster, that car is very similar to mine, just need side skirts to make it the same...

I can suggest Specsavers, they do a great 2 for 1 deal at the moment:

:D

Its all down to personal taste. personally to me the SEC is too mich of a rectangle shape to have oval pipes fitted. Its a personal thing but i went for oval pipes intially but chnaged my mind when they were on the car.

If my car looks like a Vectra, i insist you buy one!

With regards to the exhaust cutouts on my bumper, they are sat in the cut outs. If you actually knew much about exhausts and big V8 engines you would know the exhaust could never be mounted close 100% flush with the bumoper due to slight movements in the exhaust sytem when hot and during start up. Thats the reason 9/10 cars have the exhaust hanging underneath the bumper.

In all honesty, if thyat was my car i wouldn't bother with the exhaust.

The car looks nice as it is, the original AMG exhaust always looked like an after thought and IMHO loses the symmetrical shape of the car. Thats the reason i went for the twin rear box design, i wouldn't have put the single rear box on my car.

I'll dig some pics out to show what i mean later on.

Aero I's look good, and whole lot easier to live with, are you not tempted to colour code them and polish the rims?

I've decided I'll run these day to day and use the split rims I have as show wheels, they are such a nuisance to keep clean.

so you mean dont show the tips at all?

This was the other design I was considering, (you'll probably know this car from MBcoupes.com) but Like Nav, I think the exhausts look like an under slung afterthought.

The genuine AMG rear skirt has a small recess for the pipes on the near side, I'm considering taking that out a little further and semi recessing twin ovals.

dont like that at all Mudster! Mines booked in on Saturday, so still welcoming views....

to be honest, nav has got me thinking... it does look nice and clean without the exhausts! so maybe less is more...

In real life this is what a genuine AMG box looks like:

It just doesn't look right does it.

Here's a rear 3/4 of an SEC with no pipes showing, certainly another option

I don't find that overly bad but think it would look better semi recessed about half the depth of the pipes.
