An awesome Ironside E Cab!

My armrest piping has already 3 cracks at 77,500 miles! It pinches my skin when i rest my arm on it.

If that car has just sold for £40k then it looks like its going to spend another good few years 'not' being enjoyed by its new owner.

Unless that is, if the new owner intends to add plenty of miles to the clock in which case he/she's probably using it to back and forth to the supermarket to buy box after box of matches with which to burn the rest of their money!!!

I'm not really sure that I see the surprise here. I genuinely thought it would sell fairly quickly and said that on the first page of this thread ;)

It's a very, very rare car with that kind of mileage. Unrepeatable I would think. Even average E320 sportline cabs are quite desirable cars.

£40k in this day and age to a collector who wants the very best isn't all that much money I guess, and from what I have heard about CI's prices, there is room for negotiation.

Think of his markup as a finder's fee and warranty. No point moaning about how much he adds to whatever he buys them for - where are you going to get your one from?

Good luck to the new owner - and if he/she is happy with the car and the price, that's all that matters :)

Will

I managed to get him down to £35k, and I offered £9 for the tax ............ yeah, right! Anyway, I'll never doubt you again, Will! I'm still surprised, though.

I don't know how long it was for sale, but I wonder how much it would have been priced at if it was a less desirable colour, say almandine? This car, apart from the condition, is in the most sellable/desirable colour scheme, and I suspect it is the most expensive 2nd hand 124 cab yet for its age.

Yes and yes :)

It was obviously one of the best, if not 'the best' 124 cab in the existance. I really think you'd really struggle to beat one with one owner and less than 6k miles from new.

Obviously someone wanted one - and paid a sufficiently strong enough price to secure it.

Today, if you'd just won the lottery or were a rich Mercedes fan and decided you wanted an 'as new' 124 cabriolet with 6k miles and 1 owner, where can you get hold of one - for £40k or otherwise?

Will

Come on. Who's got it then?

I heard it sold the day it went up on Charles's site.

Someone has a damn fine car at half the original price. I wonder who?

Reading between the lines, I reckon Will's a strong contender!!

Crazy for the money its just an old car on low miles.

Sorry I like them but at that price its just plain daft especially if you actually want to use it.

Wonder if you could put it on expenses as a second car?

You would certainly get you loan interest and running costs allowed.....and not have to pay CGT if you sold it as a profit

The beauty of cars, lots of ways to get around CGT unlike bricks and motar.

if someone has loads of money and fancies it, they will just buy it. simple as that. it was probably bought by someone who doesnt need to care whether its going to loose money etc. its no different than buying a car for £100k and in 2 years it being worth £50k

thats probably what happend.

If I had 40k, would I buy it? No chance.
But if I had 4 million, and space to store about 20 cars, something like that would be on my shopping list.

That's what I thought.

It's also nice to have a concourse car or two around.

Awfully nice, I wouldnt pay that kinda money for a car like that, considering what else you can get for the same money!

like what? if you want a W124 with ultra low mileage then there is nothing else.

this wont of been bought by someone with just £40k to spend. it will of been bought by someone with £xxxk to spend and just fancies a W124 cabrio and doesnt want any hassles etc.
