Any of you London boys affected by the Olympic traffic chaos

The reason I ask is my son and his mate are stopping in Greenwich then travelling over to Horseguards Parade for the Beach volleyball and I was wondering how long he should allow for his public transport journey

If you Son is going to see the Beach Volleyball (Athletic Pornography) Just envy him. Ask if you can be one of his mates and carry the tissues.

Cutty Sark for Greenwich DLR to Embankment would take around 45mins for commuting. Personally, I would allow 2 hours from the moment you get on the platform at Greenwich.
Cutty Sark DLR > Bank DLR > by foot Monument > westbound circle / district line to Embankment.
The time of the journey is important (commuters) as is whether or not it is at the weekend (no commuters).

DLR 25mins / change 5mins / circle 15 mins ASSUMING A "GOOD" SERVICE. But it only takes one little thing to add another 30 mins plus.

Thank god my new truck isn't ready yet as my current one falls foul of the LEZ, not been in London all year :bannana::bannana:

25 minutes and £16 to get from St John's Wood to Mayfair this afternoon by black cab. :(

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon though :)

I thought they died in a car accident in the mid 90s...

Make sure they have oyster cards that have available balance on them, they will save a lot of time not having to get tickets and the lines will Looong!

Best route from Greenwich take DLR to Herons Quay, walk 2 mins to Canary Wharf and take Jubilee line straight to Westminister the BeachVolley Ball is 5 mins walk.

I should caution that the Jubilee line is great when it works okay but historically when it goes wrong...just my personal preference.

You could have walked that (assuming you don't have mobility problems).

Everything was flowing freely this evening along Park Lane, Bayswater Road and Holland Park Avenue, and the BBC News reports that traffic was lighter than usual today, suggesting that drivers have heeded the Mayor's advice to avoid driving in London from today onwards.

Monday morning a 80 mile journey on the M25 took me 4 hours... I did get to see a van with a" NL Olympic Team" sticker on the side... something to do with water based on the sponsors stickers...

Surely, that would be the Netherlands team, wouldn't it?

I'm using TomTom Live traffic updates, and local knowledge to get about.

Did Brentford to SE1 in one hour at 9am today. There was a jam on the A4 from Hammersmith queuing to the M4 to the M25 junction. Went via Isleworth, Twickenham, A316, Barnes, Putney, Wandsworth, Vauxhall.

The quickest roads, will be along the Olympic Route Network, where there aren't any games lanes, as these roads will be given priority at the traffic lights, as not to hold the official vehicles up.

However, because of the cycle race, on the 28th and 29th, and as I live in one of the loops, I'll be going away for a few days, since I can't use my car for work.

I had issues getting to my office today. The building lobby was filled with about 100 Olympic stewards :D My maccy D nearly went cold after having to wade through them all..

We've closed our office (not too far from Waterloo) for the period - taking the chance to do some maintenance / refurb work on the building.

Site management say that out of about 1500 people who regularly use the building, 3 people have complained... Those who need to go to client sites still go, and those who sat in the office now sit at home. There is a view in the senior leadership team that this will be a good indication of whether we can downsize our London footprint anyway - too many come into the office out of habit rather than for any real purpose.

Indeed I often do walk back from meetings in Mayfair (but not usually on the way there), an idea I entertained after my meeting yesterday, but in the event I succumbed to the heat and caught a bus instead.:)
