Anyone seen any good number plates on cars lately?

photo.jpg

This fine motorway steed sat in front of me for an hour, doing ten miles per hour... and is a good example of how gaffa tape can pimp up your number plate with instant kudos; even if you're in no particular hurry to work your way down the street!

PAU 1D on a white C63 in Sheffield. Seen it a few times now.

X1 XGE on a ..... yes you guessed, a Lotus

Just a few on way to Stanstead Airport this morning:-
81 MB - Mercedes ML
DSC 1 - ditto
MUN 5 - VW Touareg
20 CM - BMW 3 series
ESV 966 - Porsche 911 (966)

Just saw ' 1 RM ' on a Smart Car in Teddington ...

Car worth about £3k , plate about £30k

88 X on a BMW X5 in South Ken.

33 DOO was parked near the Royal Hospital this morning.

That is where I saw it too. I went to the Chelsea Auto Legends Show last sunday.

I saw this little beauty there too, I think in Franklins Row.

Actually, I was going to ask if those photos of the Hexagon Classics cars were taken at Auto Legends. Meant to get along there myself, but my plans changed on the day. And yes, the CLK was in Franklin's Row today.

Interesting number, in that it was issued by the DVLA as a 'special replacement'. Such numbers are usually issued to restore an original registration to a car (in which case they're almost always non-transferrable), or if the same number was accidentally issued to two cars, which used to happen sometimes before the central DVLC computer was introduced.

Re the potential value, NewReg are currently advertising 9 RM for £30k, so with a number 1 you can at least double that. As an indication, they also have 1 MR on their site... at £200k (it went for £21k at auction about 18 years ago).

Yes, the first two of the Mercedes were taken at Auto Legends, the last one was from their website.,and the interior shot of the SM was from the website.

It was very good at Auto Legends, better even than I was expecting. I will make a point to go next year.

There were lots of great cars and number plates.

Such as,

Oh dear .... that 'doctored' plate on the Zonda really 'cheapens' it .... :(

' 120 NDA ' ...

Bet it wasn't that much , it's only useful to someone with a Zonda , so the target market is somewhat limited.

I'm sure Mocas would know what it sold for.

£3300, in June 2009. ;)

Not the sort of number that would usually go to auction. Either someone at the DVLA spotted the Zonda potential, or the prospective bidder requested its inclusion.

Doesn't the Zonda have a Mercedes engine?
