Assyst Plus question

Just an update - called up the mechanic who says the oil they put in is 229.5. However they say its not the oil thats the issue but the oil filter. The 15500 mile intervals only apply if a fleece filter is used, whereas a paper one should be changed every 10k miles.
Boll*cks.

It's all noted in the docs I attached above.
That said the "Extension of oil change interval" makes no mention of fleece filters, simply the use of 229.5 spec oil.

My S203 (2005) would go to 18,000m miles between services ( I easily did that in 12 months). The car had ASSYST+ but I had to ask the dealer to apply the 1.3 factor

Ive read the document you posted, it quotes:

"Vehicles with gasoline engines:

Oil selection in instrument cluster for increasing the service intervals. Vehicles with Active Service System PLUS and vehicles 203, 209, 230 with Active Service System as of model year 2005. The increase in service intervals is only permitted when using engine oil as per MBBV sheet 229.5 and fleece oil filters. Only thenis the longest service interval to be confirmed......."

Its not a huge issue for me as the service will only be a month early but it seems if you don't use fleece filters on a petrol car, then the extended services dont apply.

Somebody should tell Mercedes then, because they don't fit fleece filters on mine and the service interval is 15,500 miles or yearly.

Document - AH18.00-P-0102-01A Notes concerning extension of the oil change interval All engines
makes no mention of fleece filters?

Whereas document - SI18.00-P-0011C Service Information: Engine oil change does mention fleece filters but only for vehicles used in specific regions or under certain operating conditions?

I've seen lots of references to fleece oil filters, and its referred to in my car's book, but I've not seen one and the genuine filters supplied for my car aren't fleece.

Seems to specifically mention petrol engines, not diesels.

I've done some further research into it and it does seem that the fleece oil filters are only used on the petrol variants for longevity issues. I cant find any reference to fleece filters on diesel models in the UK or otherwise, whereas they seem to be the norm for petrol engines in the US and elsewhere.

My SLC300 is petrol, Mercedes do not fit a fleece filter when it's serviced. Apart from that, in the 2005 onward models mentioned earlier, when resetting the service reminder, the only option you have is for oil, 229.3 or 229.5. There is no option anywhere to say it has anything other than the normal filter that Mercedes fit every day. Make of that what you will.

Its all very confusing. I agree with the option of 229.3 or 229.5. However, the above document posted appears to say 229.5 should only be selected on petrol vehicles if both 229.5 oil is used and a fleece filter.

So, now the real question - should I just reset it and continue driving if I go over 10k miles before the service in June 2020? I am planning a few long trips actually so i might even end up doing 12000 miles.
