Autobox wont change gear on CL - HELP!

Yes you are right John and i told him that i would not be happy if this were changed and we still had a problem. He then got his friend from the dealer to put it on the star after working hours. He said it showed the same thing so without replacing this there was no way forward.
I dont want to be unreasonable to him but i also want this damn issue resolved.
Im fairly stuck, there are not many other ways i can see out of this.

Liek you said Jay the other option is the dealer, they will certainly resove your issue, in a faster and more efficient time span, but will put a dent in your wallet.

Best thing is to weigh up your options, what you want doing and how fast, indys usually are slower due to amount of work they have on, MB want it in and out asap....

The only thing that puzzels me here is that i thought that the speedo took this pulse for the speed of the car from this point. OK it could be multi output, but I doubt it.

As the old one has to come off, as I have said, surely it could be tested off the car.

Isnt the speedo reading taken from the wheel sensors these days?

there seem to be sepeed sensors all over the place! one on each wheel and at the gearbox..

Yes the ABS sensor and the left hand SAM is used for speed pulses around the car.

I will look it up and try and work it out.

There are 4 outputs on this gearbox sender, one is for the setting of the ABC one is for the gearshift, its too hard working backwards to know what the other two are for if used. I am still looking for anything that could help.

Hi All,

GOOD NEWS! A big weight off, the car is sorted now.

It was the gearbox speed plate and now changes gear perfectly.

Now just little things for me to sort out.

1) The sunroof only goes back in notches. Craig tells me it needs to go on the star (if i had remembered before it could have been done free with this job)
The car had a new window control unit and so it needs to be programmed apparently?

2) Slight misfire at idle...

But im a happier chappy for now as I have a car that can now be sold!

No this is my occupation, I started Mercland last May...

I do feel that I have been taken for a ride on this one,as do probably many others.
I do not normally put in a couple of hours work for some one else to earn on.

I will think very hard in the future as to what I answer. to be truthful,I am quite shocked.

I understand where you are coming from Malcolm, but to be fair to Jay , his signature does really tell all .....

If you look at his presently owned cars , the w123 and the w107 .... the CL600 seems a little out of character....

Malcolm ,your input on the site in the time you have been here has been exceptional , and you really do seem to know your onions, it would be a shame to lose your knowledgebase over this.

Quite a few active people on this forum are also associated with the trade. They give advice freely but don't use club members' goodwill to line their pockets. Which you have done, it seems - that's the difference. I think you need to understand that.

AND SO SAY WE ALL (Battlestar Galatica fan :o ;) )

In Jaymanek's defence his signature is always at the base of his posts. Perhaps one day he might buy Malcolm a pint or three?

I think your input has been invaluable and hopefully a private owner might need this thread one day?

Regards,
John

I am quite shocked by the negative reaction to the happy outcome of a rare high spec merc being sorted.

It is obvious that Jay trades in cars and I think its a credit to him to take the trouble to sort out the problem rathen then taking the easy option of sticking the car back in the auctions and passing it on to the next enthusiast.

I'd be very interested to see how quickly this CL600 gets sold

i am soon to dip into the market for a facelift 04/05 CL55AMG

i am waiting for the new CL AMG to arrive and for both p/x cl55's to arrive at the dealers, as well as the residual getting a further downward push due to the new model being out

saw a beautiful 04 cl55 at mb chelmsford, fully loaded, 50K miles, £40K

to me that reads: this summer, beautiful 04 cl55 private sale, fully loaded, 50K miles, £30K

does anybody think that i can make a private sale conditional upon mb providing an extended warranty? i.e., the owner and i arrange to drive the car to a dealer who sells me an extended warranty, i then complete the sale with the owner for cash?

Not sure it is entirely from the good of his heart, he should stand to make more profit from a non-auction sale...

p.s. I hope the CL600 sells, and sells well for that matter!

Sadly the start of this thread did not indicate very well that the car was only for re sale.

As for your remarks "easy option" should not you have mentioned the extra £4k over the trade price that he will earn, that is certainly the more atractive option.

When it comes to trading, I have been there and done it, Had an account with BCA and Brentford when it was running for 15 years, He got the car for at least £4k under bottom book, I used to by all of the XJs with blown pistons as I could fix them in under one working day.

Whilst I see your point about giving your time to help someone who is possibly going to profit from your advice, in reality the fix was performed by a garage not following your advice.

In addition I would like to point out that Jay has been resident on this forum since first inception and has helped out loads of people with his advice, and he wasn't a trader then but has subsequently become one.

I'm not sure last time he asked for advice but think giving some was a lot more recent and often.

Don't get het up about this, just make your own decision whether you want to help out in such circumstances again and carry on.

.

Excuse me Dieselman, you will be hard pushed to find any words of mine on this thread that are "advice" I searched and found some reasons that fitted the opening thread, from then on I only answered questions that jay put up and explained how a few things worked.
