B Service costs and parts

I had a letter from MB UK this week... they offer the next service - either A or B - for a flat fee of just £125 (in celebration of MB's 125th anniversary). And if the car is not due a service in the next 6 months, for this money they will give it a good check-up. I find the whole thing a bit odd to be honest.

Oooo --I hope I get one of those, my car needs a B service next Feb!

Wow. I'm glad I'm going to be doing most of my servicing myself. Air filter: £12, fitting time about 10 minutes without rushing. Oil filter: £6, oil about £50, should be a 20-minute job, mostly waiting for oil to suck out. Couple of special tools (filter cup wrench, oil vacuum extractor) will last forever. Pollen filter is under £20, 15 minute job.

Inchcape did my ATF for £190+VAT, a local indy did my brake fluid for £45 (non-SBC). My front lower ball joints need doing, and I'm not springing for the special tool for that: a local indy has quoted £90 per side.

I've got an A service due in a few weeks (the car's alternative system had it as a "C" for time until I removed the brake fluid change from the list, now it agrees with "A"), which I'll write up and cost in a separate thread.

Of course, I'm starting with a car that doesn't have any MB service history, just a few receipts from an indy; and I intend to keep the car until its old enough that the provenance of the service history is less important than how it looks.

Certainly not just you, I too am waiting for a name change over there.
Don't give up on them though - both forums are equally great, with many members on both.

Have been a member of, and still am a member of a number of forums for my various activities and do notice how the operations of the forums change according to how the particular forum is run, is it run as a commercial business, directors etc, or is it run by members with no commercial interest, I understand it can make a difference. My limited conclusion is like yourself both forums are equally as great but seem to differ in flexibility with new members. OK I understand that there are a lot of Trolls out there and all forums need protection. Certain forums seem to cater for different parts of the Country whilst MBClub seems to cover the whole of the Country MB Owners seems to be more South bound. Not a problem but interesting to note or do I have that wrong.
