I am looking to upgrade my current S211 320cdi and have been looking at the E55's and E63's.
Now I know that one is Normally aspirated and the other forced, but in the real world is the performance worlds apart?
I can get an E55 on an 05 for £25k, is it really worth spending another £15k for a 63?

Drive both, they deliver power in very different ways and one may float your boat whilst the other may not. Its a torque thing

From a longevity angle my engine and supercharger have not missed a beat or chirped or squeaked in 21k miles

The faint whine is addictive BUT the 63 bellows more whilst the 55 sounds angry

I have loved having a CLS55 its been one of the best cars I have had for occasion and smiles per mile its only going because I get bored and 2.3 years is a long time under my ownership

Which ever you get you will love I gtee it

The descison I have to make is that I love the 320cdi, but I am ssuming that the 55 will be leagues ahead of it.
The age of the car does not bother me I am not a plate snob.
What I have to decide is whether to keep the current car, or change to an E55 for £10k, or change to a E63 for nearer 25k.
A drive will sort out those questions, but I live in a dealership void and trying to find either an E63 or an E55 nearby is challenging!

No I am not!
I was generalising a bit, the price on the E55's is slightly lower as would be the valuation on mine.
How difficult would it be to swap the seven seat option from mine to an E55?

If you were, I was going to ask you to sell mine for me... :thumb:

Do I hear a little Forum 'project' in the distance? On the other hand, I have seen plenty of E55s and E63s which have the 7 seat option already fitted. At least then you wouldn't have to search for one with the same colour interior!

I have two on my radar.
On is on an 04 plate with 63k miles, has the seven seats and the headrest screens etc already fitted for £22500
The other is on an 05 with 43k miles no seats or screens(I have both these, just would be extra to fit) for £24k.
I think the extra for a 63 just isnt worth the opportunity cost....

Your also a torque junky with your 320 CDi and as such the 55 sc engine would impress you more

The more I think of it the more sure I am of the benefits of the 55....but then I can see the scottish border from here:D

But then I might find that the passenger seat starts emitting a whine, and that would take away all the enjoyment:D

I know the back is big, but a sofa, bed, bath and basin could make it a bit of a squeeze....
