In who's eyes?
I (and many others) would say that it was one of the most beautiful cars ever made, every line on the car was "right" it reflected the style of the period whilst looking futuristic - an absolute design icon. It may not have been fashionable like a Mercedes or Ferrari but it oozes style in a way that others can only dream of.
So, no I wasn't having a laugh and I wasn't following the flock saying just because it's red and Italian it must be beautiful.
Look at a Ferrari painted any other colour than red (or maybe yellow) and see if still has the same appeal - I doubt that most people would find it anywhere near as "beautiful" if it was painted metallic green.
Now think that the Citroen was introduced in 1955 and like the 300sl gullwing just how different and influential to future car design it was.
The DS was a car designed by an artist, architect and sculptor not by a computer and a wind tunnel
Beauty may well be in the eye of the beholder but you must be blind if you can't see it in the design of the Citroen DS
