Becker Map Pilot 2.0.49 Upgrade

I think you may be correct about the 4GB memory being a problem. Mine has 3GB left after download and it had more than 4 GB available after i deleted the old maps. There is an operating manual on mine that I would delete if I needed the space. Have you deleted the operating manual?

Becker won't even acknowledge there is a 4gb/8gb issue. I've even offered to return my MP to them but I simply get ignored.

I've also had the same letter.

Uninstall Content Manager and Library. Download latest version 5.13.800 from their website. Answer ''yes'' to search for latest S/W. Plug in Map Pilot, probably have to re-name and enter username and password. Download 2.0.49.
I removed some maps to free up space but after download ''not enough space'' message was displayed. Removed all maps, still not enough space. Now frustrated I decide to move the main maps back into the unit. After some time this was completed and lo and behold 2.0.49 was shown as installed!!. Still not had time to check all features.

Well done! I think that is probably where I am. When you say "main maps" do you mean just a subset of the whole european package? There is certainly not enough space on my unit (early 2011, 4gb) for the whole package. I managed to load GB, Ireland, France, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy - and then the unit was full!

Please post back when you have had time to check all the features. I would expect no TMC and very erratic entry of Post Codes. Both important issues to me and I guess to many others.

The one thing that Content Manager 5.13.800 does solve is that now the unit software version is shown at the bottom of the Content Manager window.
 
I'm not willing to pay Euro 129.00 for maps that should be free to me, to try and find out if I'm lucky and able to get the software working.

I was fortunate enough to have a dealer provide me with a brand new unit on loan until Becker solve the problem with mine.

As I see it so far, there's simply not enough space on my MP to load the software Becker are asking me to load.

It bothers me they won't even accept the offer of my unit back to see what the issue is, surely that would make sense they accepted?

TMC doesnt work on 2.0.49

No matter how many times you install it. TMC does not work on 2.0.49.

TMC and PTT not working

Have had exactly the same problems - can only load UK maps as not enough memory - but it will navigate although the screen shows an odd perspective the road ahead always going into the clouds or the stars. An Omen??

TMC not functioning.

PTT voice recognition also showing 'unavailable' in UK and now greyed out in the screen menu.

It is really an expensive 'downgrade' so far - in my view the unit is not fit for purpose as sold. My Map pilot installed in Nov 2011 - I may have accepted that more memeory is needed after a few years but not after a few months.

May well be rebranded as Map Pilos**t if they don't sort a fix or allow a reinstall of the old software and maps that worked pretty well.
 
It is quite important that you talk to your dealers about this issue and take it up with Mercedes Customer services after the dealer has shrugged their shoulders.

I say that because Mercedes won't recognise this as an issue until they get more than a couple of complaints.

Mercedes Customer service have said I'm the first person to have any issues with this unit. The only reason I got a replacement (loaner) is I have such a good dealer that did this off their own back.

Take it up now with Mercedes, they should then pressure Becker for a proper solution.

Today I had another holding reply from Becker. It is the one that says they have escalated my problem (TMC not working!).

As suggested I have contacted Mercedes Benz customer services via email and they wanted to know the chassis number and reg no. along with the dealership.

Its not Mercedes Benz fault, nor is it the dealerships. Becker need to release a 2.0.5 version of the software giving us TMC back.

The previous poster is right. Mercedes Benz have the weight to throw behind us, let us get them on side by telling them of the issues.
 
I e-mailed Becker concerning the TMC problem, as usual no response from them. Then I e-mailed Mercedes Benz and have received the same reply concerning
chassis no. reg. no. etc.
 
On wonders if this is a peculiar problem to German companies. We all admire their thoroughness, their attention to detail, their engineering excellence. But with this seems to come an overly bureaucratic approach to everything. :dk:

I had a phone call this morning from Mercedes Customer services (Holland I think).

Anyway, after a 20 minute conversation about my unit and quick run down of this thread MB customer services are not impressed with Becker at all, particularly the fact there is no UK physical address or support.

It is absolutely imperative that all the people having this issue talk to their dealer then escalate the problem to MB Customer Services, the more of you that do this, the more heads will get banged together at Becker by Mercedes.

Even if your only issue is TMC and you've had to revert please still report it.

Process as follows:-

1. Go to dealer, explain problem, get lots of shrugged shoulders and advice to contact Becker Support - get the name of the chap you spoke to.

2. Phone Mercedes Customer support, explain problem, get the phone equivalent of shrugged shoulders and a referral to Becker Support. Explain Becker Support is as useful as a chocolate teapot - provide vehicle details - log complaint.

That's it.

I too have had similar problems with my Becker. Initially with persistent lock ups where Becker advised me to update to the latest software. Without this forum, thank you, I would still have a unit displaying "Cannot access memory card" or similar. Unit is now working with updated software. TMC is greyed out, but, is this only because there are no messages to display ?
I have today, completed a dealer satisfaction survey after a recent service. I made quite strong comments about the unnacceptable Mercedes/Becker relationship whilst reiterating that I do not have a problem with the dealer.

Hi Amjenn. Welcome. Your tmc doesn't work because it is broken with software 2.0.49. I have updated to 2.0.49 and driven between Oxford and county durham on several occasions and tmc never had any messages. To test if it was the software I reverted to 1.5.21 several times. Each time I reverted tmc worked. I have left mine at 1.5.21 as I would rather have my tmc working. Even at the expense of shiny 3d stuff.
 
Further to this, after a little research on the net last night, it would seem that TMC signals in the UK are broadcast by Classic FM. In TMC settings - Advanced, you can tune to a station for TMC signals. The system will scan and stop at most other stations, but always stops briefly at Classic FM but then carries on scanning. I have queried this with Becker and I will post if I get any response.
 
I hope you get a respose. I have been waiting for a reply to e-mails sent to Becker and Mercedes this week complaining about the lack of progress from Becker. I can confirm that TMC does not operate. I have tried both manual and automatic settings on long journeys but the icon remains greyed out. It is most annoying.
What is it with these people that they cannot even give us the courtesy of replying to our e-mails?

We have forwarded your concerns to our Technical Department who in tern have contacted Becker on your behalf. We have had feedback from our colleagues and it transpires that Becker is already aware of the problem you describe. We understand that it is under analysis and Becker are working on a solution. Becker have also confirmed to us that customers and we will be informed directly when the problem is solved.

We look forward to a speedy resolution to this issue and would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us with your concerns.

Hopefully a solution to TMC problem soon, don't hold your breath!
 
I have had a response today from Becker asking me to send screenshots from the content manager, manage software pages.
I will do this Sunday and report back any progress
