I have just bought an E320 cabrio Sportline 1994.

It has factory fit 205/15 wheels on 7J rims. I've seen advice that 16 or 17 inch wheels might improve handling. Has anyone any advice on this? Can you just put bigger wheels on? Does it affect speedo readings and milometer accuracy?

18'' cosmetically look nice however I wouldnt advise bigger than 17's. I have 17's on my car and I can confirm it has not affected speedo, milometer readings, as with regards to handling i dont believe it makes a significant difference.

Bigger wheels and tyres alone don't improve handling - they just change it

If you're happy with the handling I'd leave well alone. If you're not I'd look closely at all the bushes, springs & dampers before changing anything else

Fuseman; you have a class car there - dont 'improve' it with the wrong wheels please. Mercedes probably went to a bit of trouble to set the whole car up so just make sure the cuurent wheels are in tip top condition. that's my 2p for all its worth.

Can you post some pics in the Gallery please?

enjoy the car,

You can fit some 16" or 17" but no bigger. MB proposed a few models as accessories in those sizes. Personnally I'd go for a set of 8 holes 7Jx16 ET46 either normal or polished.

WRT to speedometer mileometer accuracy it will depend on the wheel tyre combination. It's usually possible to achieve pretty much the same rolling radius ( which is what affects accuracy) when fitting bigger wheels by having a lower aspect ratio tyre (e.g. 50 instead of 55).

There's a calculator on this page http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html
