The seller has 2 listings for w124 AMG back boxes, and this one appears to be a no reserve auction, so my go for a reasonable price. Moot point if it's for a 4 banger, which would make sense as they seem to breaking a 220.
On another tangent, I saw a 300ce earlier today which had colour coded door handles and it looked very good. I think they may have been from a late r129? either way, it's not something I would have expected to work, but it looked worked very well.
Think i'll be sticking to the Sebring for now me thinks. I'd be inclined to get a box made if i'm honest. The Sebring will set the platform for deciding if i like the sound etc going forward.
..how about the handleless look? have them pop out doors operated with a fob?? nahhh!
It maybe me, but i find the design of the 124 door handle a fantastic design! Combined with the indent on the door to fit your hands around makes for a clean design. Infact as we all know, all the mercs around this era had this design consistency.
Hi Billy,
Good to see such great progress on the car - would appreciate some new pictures of it - IMO the best stance on a W124 coupe I have seen! Have to look at pictures of your car every so often to get my fix...
RE fitting 9js on the rear - if you recall I done this with my coupe and had 235/45/18s on the rear - these rubbed under load. Im not sure if the 40 profile will allow enough clearance, and ill be interested to see if it does - bearing in mind the arches on my coupe have not been rolled.
Best Regards,
adil
Thanks pal, 40 profile will help the issue under load. Natural negative camber and inward side wall profile and selection of tyre width plays a big part for arch clearance at the rear. This of course matters if you are pretty low.
Simple and most easiest/cheaper method for you i'd advise is get the arch lips rolled. £35 a corner??
These are double skinned and are quire rigid at the rear compared to the front wings. With someone who knows what they are doing with the arch rolling tool, the job should be a good'un. Be prepared to sign a disclaimer to say that the engineer isn't liable for any paint cracking/chipping on your paintwork - i was lucky no problems there.
These are the 18x8, i took a little while back. It should show what i meant about tyres not overpowering the look of the alloy in my previous post.
It also shows natural camber at the rear and the need for the tyres to be tucked away in my scenario given my ride height. This is the method I will be portray with the 9'js giving a better overall stance. That gap in the rear you can just about see should hopefully be no longer.
