Billy's W124 Coupe Project

What height from wheel centre to guard lip have you got Billy?

Jeez that is an awesome looking Factory there. What do they make there?

Okay... Great looking car. Sits perfectly on the rims. very nice indeed. You should be very happy.

I think it'll be good if I do a couple of measurements. I'll report back. On a high level view, the fronts are running a 4 nib pad, and the rear on a 3 nib. Further to this, tyre wall heights vary too... 215/40 up front 235/35 rears.

Cheers mate, It's a BOC gas factory.

Brakes and power, supercharger wasn't it Billy?

So, whats next Billy? The car is looking stunning...

I'm going to be stripping the interior next to fit the leccy memory and heated seats.

All the wiring for these seats were installed during the engine conversion phase and in reality its just a case of out with the old in with the new. But i'm stripping the interior as want to sound proof the entire floor pan to reduce road noise. This sound proofing wil be stretched out further to all existing inner body panels such as doors, boot areas and the roof.

While it's all out it will give me a good chance to upgrade the sound system with new speakers in the doors using the original coupe door speaker pockets Ed and I sourced together with upgrading the rears and the fronts. I might work somthing for the rears to perhaps fit a larger speaker in the available cut out as i want them to be amped along with the door speakers. The main power source will be a Becker Indianapolis Pro unit which like most of my bits for this project is just sitting around for a long while in the back garage!

Brakes and power, supercharger wasn't it Billy?

The four pot brakes we upgraded to are working a treat W, In my opinion they are very adequate in doing the job its supposed to and am pleased by it's stopping performance. Not sure if the car will benefit further from an all out brake conversion but would certainly look good!

My only 'annoyance' is that it's hard to keep the front monoblocs clean with these four pots. After a drive the fronts are glazed with a good going over of brake dust. Far more than when they used to be the 220 brakes - double the stopping power double the mess!

I would consider a supercharger upgrade, but not anytime soon, the car is a 'beast' in its own right currently and i dont think i'm in need of more power yet as its got plenty to give. When i'm giving it some beans the engine sounds like a well seasoned machine and its got this distinctive sound about it. The rear Sebring box sings along in harmony too and both make a good combination.

I'm just pleased its got the quickness to match the looks now and has finally 'come together', but i wouldn't write off an upgrade!

It will be nice to have a few pictures when u finish the project

Installed these connectors tonight for the driving lamps on the front bumper. Not sure if i should stick the AMG badge on the bottom lip of the bumper though? I'll have a think about it.

Does anybody know if the driving lamps are supposed to come on with normal headlight operation or with the high beam?

..currently its switching on when i use the high beam i.e. the function to flash or when the stalk is pushed forward to remain on? Is this correct?

Billy

I have my bumper driving lights wired to come on with the high beam.

Old pic when the wiring was done only no headlights installed
Gives an idea of the beam pattern...

I'm really pleased with the practicality of the car given its stance and ride height. I just drive it without the worry of rubbing or scraping, even with a boot full and passengers in the back it's brilliant infact Its a blessing!! Most slammed cars rub all over the place and usually no passengers in the back are allowed! Meaning its cab journey back home LOL!

Nice car mate

I heard about your car, i was told it can go round corners too, some guy said he crapped his pants going around some twisty stuff...hehehehe

Peace bruv

Hi Billy,

Looks awesome!

Worth doing some before and after shots of the car - especially showing how the kit has changed its look.

Best,

Adil

That is a replica AMG badge? I know MB dont sell one in the same design...

I have got an original one that I have had for about 12 years still sealed!

Its original Vin. It came from the new/old stock same as the driving lamps and the connectors. Cnt remember the name of the company. They used to sell merc bits but I don't think they trade anymore?

Im guessing shes all locked up for the winter months...

Not very good with Photoshop - would have otherwise posted comparison shots of before and after the bodykit.

Can anyone else kindly oblige?

Damn - that is looking SWEEEEET. Great job mate! Love it without the rear spoiler.

A lot of umming and arring on the ducktail and decided not to go for it in the end.

Doesn't look right with the GEN II rear bumper. With the GEN I, it's a perfect match.

Ahhhh, this is turning me towards ambers...

There's something about it isn't it!
