Bleeding fuel after pipe/pump repair w210 E320 cdi

Having given this some more thought over night.....
The one way valve is all I can think it could be!
The pump itself is quite simple and I made sure it went back together correctly even using a slight smear of diesel on all the new seals.
I put it back together and it sat for a week before fitting....I also didn't check the valve before fitting to the car :fail
Before I refit it next time I will lube it with some diesel first.
Can the pump be pre filled before fitting?
I,m also not going to bother fitting the electric fans etc before I've got it started :wallbash:

Fingers crossed :thumb:

To be honest its looking like the HP pump from where im reading..

Just called in to a diesel specialist near me and explained what has happened and he reckons that its either the one way valve or one of the tiny washers in the pump head that has been misplaced!
I think its the valve that was stuck!
I'm going to strip the pump again tonight and re do everything.

Well just finished stripping the pump and re fitting the seals, nothing was out of place so once again it's pointing towards the valve.
Probably be Friday now before I can refit and try get it started!

Last chance before the matches come out lol.

Just fitted pump back on, pre filled the pump with diesel and a syringe through the one way valve.
Pulled the feed pipe off the top of the fuel filter and filled the filter to the top, also held the feed pipe vertical and back filled with the syringe!

Went to start it and first start cycle nothing :(

Second start cycle....nothing and I could see air in the lift pump outlet pipe, took the pipe off then back on again, swiveled the pipe to make a good seal.

3rd start cycle.......Started instantly!!!!!! :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

No fuel leaks and a running car.
Many thanks to everyone who helped I am very greatfull
It was the valve in the end!
Just a word of warning....if you buy a pre used pump or clean your own and leave it for a while before fitted, check the valve and pre lube it with diesel!

Well done, you kept your cool, ticked off all the possibilities until you were left with the valve, great detective work.

Hi,

I reckon I have a similar issue. Can you help me with more information on the valve that needed cleaning?

I am trying to work out with my mechanic and both of us are unable to find the right cause of engine not firing.

It would be great if you can help me with some pics...
