Bluewater - Sat 22nd Sept

My story.

I had a heavily tuned Toyota Celica GT4 Turbo. UK build.

This included a huge inter cooler that liked fresh cool air. The number plate obstructed the air flow. So I got a legal stick on one for the bonnet.

I got pulled in central London. I was given a ticket for "failing to display a front number plate". I was told that the plate had to be readable and was quoted some measurements. But I was told that it has to be vertical. Hence why most cars have specific plate holders on the front and Mitsubishi Evo's have an offset square plate.

I appealed the ticket and lost.

So no plate = ticket.

The offence is failing to display. It fell of would not hold much water. Also the Police who cruised by a couple of times will now have put markers against your cars. That takes care of the it fell off argument.

DM, you sure know how to make a thread boring....you're like a broken record.

Why don't you PM the two guys without front plates (I think they are both occasional users of this site) and seek their opinions rather than make snide remarks about all who attended, oh but I suppose you can't help yourself can you?

S

I can't recall making any comment about C63, so you are safe from vitreol today Simon and I merely answered the reason why people drive with no front numberplate.
I didn't ask the question, so maybe you should be directing your post at Whitenemesis. ;)

Seems to be prevalent amongst certain drivers for illegal reasons. It's not defendable, so stop trying.

Should we have a poll?

Are number-plates important? I think for good reason they are.

BS! See here : Obtain Duplicate or Substitute License Plates and Stickers

"California Vehicle Code §5200 requires two license plates be attached, one to the front and one to the back of all automobiles and light-duty trucks"

WOW, seems to have struck a chord.

AFAIK, California did only require a rear plate but now has a front one as mandatory, however many states do not.

State by State

Certain states such as California, Ohio, Iowa, Washington, Maryland and Massachusetts require their drivers to post both a front and rear license plate on their cars and even make it illegal for car dealers to sell a new car without a license plate bracket on the front bumper. Others, like Arizona and Kansas, issue two plates but make rear display required and front display optional. Most other states issue only a single plate for the rear of the vehicle.

As we were originally talking about Bluewater shopping complex in Essex, UK, I'm not sure it really matters.

The law in the UK says plates both front and rear, not don't bother if you don't want to or it makes your car look "sexy"...or if you want to avoid detection from driving or other offences.

This said appreciate everyone wants their say, just seems this thread has strayed a lot from its original concept.
If any consolulation to R2D2 from the earlier post, I also attended a meet at BW once, turned up a week too early, DOH! no wonder no one was there!, my 1.1/2 hour drive home was quite quick thou!

Ah..so that's why you got all aggressive and itsy...

Well, it was WN took the thread off course, so better attack him instead...or hadn't you quite computed that one... ;)

though. :)

Erm, no. My question was very much related to the GTG.

'Twas you who took it onto speed cameras and law breaking

Indeed, and it happens a lot on other threads/topics too! Next we'll be discussing a missing Siamese Cat :wallbash:

Has anybody on here seen my cat? She is a Siamese and is easily recogniseable as she has a nice plate on her front (assuming it didn't falloff)

Touché !
