Brand new Hillman Avenger !

Wow!!! How amazing - but to say it's been in dry store it's suffered a bit. Shame it has the dings etc. But it's still amazing - wouldn't buy it though:D

What a find. Maybe they should have used it in Life on Mars. If its never been registered before does that mean it will get an 07 plate on first registration?

Wow,

Thats amazing !!!

Shame its not something a bit more special though.... old cooper S or Lotus cortina etc..

Someones going to win a concors at a classic car show though..

Quick, call NCAP...test it

Good News: A mothballed brand new car from 1970! :D
Bad News: It's an Avenger!
I had the misfortune to own one of these in the '70s. It dissolved into a rusty heap before it was 3 years old. I notice the seller refers to contemporary road tests saying that it was better to drive than a Marina. Faint praise indeed: the go-cart I made as a kid out of plywood and pram wheels was better to drive than a Marina. Still, someone obviously wants it, the biddings up to 5 grand

I drove a late one (IIRC badged as a Talbot Avenger?) as a company car, remember it being much nicer than the Alpines and Solaras we also had!

my dad used to have one of those, i didnt really like it then, so i drove it into a wall!!!!!!! ( i was 11 or 12 and thought i could drive ).

I'd question the use of the term "brand new", this vehicle is in fact 34 years old! ;)

Of all the cars to preserve. I would endorse every word wrote by Dave Lewis. Comparing it to a Marina? Why not an All-Agro, sorry Allegro. These vehicles were terrible and the final coffin of what was a decent marque.

Regards,
John

I was once lucky enough to hire one of these and I never regretted it because if I hadn't hired it, I might have bought one and it would have been yet another of the many bad decisions I have made in my life.

Bad choice of car to preserve though. Now a Sunbeam Tiger - that would be a whole different ball game, though I can't recall if they were available in 1973, probably not. A nice Merc or even a BMW2002 would have been a better bet.

The Marina was a bit of a horror, I had a 1.8 Estate as a company car, went like the proverbial off a shovel until the gearbox mounting rusted through in the first year and deposited the gearbox on my drive. The All-Aggro was worse in my opinion - what was that square wheel about? The last decent BMC car to my mind was the 1800 Land Crab.

Wow the fact thats its virtually new woudnt surprise me if the price of the car went high, im not shure if anyone remembers but there was a VW T2 van that almost went to £35 a while back here so dont know how high this will go

£35 - as high as that  :D :D

Only because it was virtually mint just like this although this has some rust that did not. Im shure someone remembers ?

Reminds me of the scene in Woody Allens "SLEEPER" when he discovers the VW beetle in the cave after 237 years covered in dust---sits in ---and starts it up. The one liners are worth a look. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070707/quotes
heres a few:-
Miles Monroe: I'm Not Really The Heroic Type. I was beat up by Quakers.

Miles Monroe: My brain! It's my second favorite organ!

Miles Monroe: Perform sex? Uh, uh, I don't think I'm up to a performance, but I'll rehearse with you, if you like.

Pammy was taking the proverbial...You mean £35k.

What a difference a "k" makes :D.
