Break Disk and Pads

Point is: as a reputable garage, they shouldn't just be telling you that they need replacing, they should be quoting the 'measured' thickness of the old discs and pads and the Mercedes minimum allowed thickness.

Most people can't comprehend such information, they just want to know do they need replacing, or not.

Do you have access to the minimum measurement? It would be good for him to have the info when he takes the car in - it is an A150 09 plate.

Genuine Mercedes disks have the minimum reading stamped on the hub flange.

Hi
Just having a look for info in different branded pads/discs (eicher, pagid, bosch etc) and stumbled on this thread.
Ok I gather eicher are to be avoided, what are your experiences with pagid or Bosch? Any idea what brand mb fit?
Thanks
Gaz

Get them from MB and ask for a discount. They are not that expensive

Ok thanks, and what's the reason for the discount? Or do you literally just ask for one?

Just ask for one. Say you are a member of the owners club

Good thread, and topical for me:

I had genuine MB brake pads fitted 8 months ago and now I notice an unpleasant 'grittiness' and irregular 'pulsating' sensation through the brake pedal when braking. It's like the pads are biting and then not biting (not ABS effect, AFAIK).

I've only done about 15K miles in the last 8 months, so is this to be expected? Or is there some other possibility, e.g. brake fluid causation etc?

I expect the hubs were not cleaned properly where the disc mounts. Corrosion on the hub is very common.

Thanks for the reply.

If it's caused by corrosion, is this likely to be expensive to fix?

Does the corrosion cause the disc not to sit flush against the hub and to move slightly upon firm application of the pads on the disc?

It's not expensive to sort. It just needs to be cleaned with an abrasive wheel.

I just noticed that my brake discs have a small patch (grove) on the side of my brake disc. Would this be the marker for the minimum thickness?

Nope. There is no marker.
