Bulb upgrade on 208 CLK?

ive bit the bullet and got the LED ones for the front - they match great without looking "nasty"

i do have the bulb failure so am going to look into the resistor option........... unless anyone here has any advise on fitting it?

Just as a quick update to this.

Met up with Howard last weekend who kindly offered me a set of spare generic 'Blue Vision' type bulbs. We tried both these and some Philips Blue Visions that he has in his car - seemed identical.

The output didn't look all that much different to the standard MB sidelight bulb at first in the afternoon light, but I was driving in the dark recently and did notice a marked improvement in colour match to the factory fitted HID Xenon lights:

I'm happy with that  They were very yellow before and looked odd! :o

Obviously not identical in light colour/output to the Xenon headlight (never would be and doesn't need to be), but the colour match is significantly better than it was - looks much better to me :)

I'm not really interested in messing with far-eastern eBay LED replacements with dummy load resistors etc. This is a marked improvement from the standard bulb and hassle free. Considering that they're only a few £ to buy (I think the Philips ones are £7.00 on eBay) it's got to be a worthy mod - 2 minutes to swap the pair, job done.

Cheers Howard!

Hi Will, did you find it is more difficult to read the white lines at night?

I had Philips Diamond Vision H7 5000K fitted briefly and I swear it was not as bright at the Osram +50% I had previous. My friend tested them on the light density meter and found that they are not that different in light intensity, just different colour.

I find at night when I'm tired, I have difficulties distinguishing the white lines and light grey coloured kerbs from the road. There is just a lack of contrast in the light itself.

I have changed them back to Osram +50% now.

Hi Garrison,

These are only the tiny 6W sidelight bulbs that I have replaced (not like the main headlamp H7 bulbs etc). My car has factory HID Xenon lights for the headlamps and so they provide ample illumination of the road/white lines etc.

To be honest, the difference in light output beween these 'blue vision' H6W sidelight bulbs and the original type is undetectable I would think, the colour is just a tad closer to match the headlamps.

Will

Thanks Will.

I wonder whether there is any mod one can do with the wiring to get more light from the existing halogen bulbs.

I have the facelifted W220 with the projector halogen headlight.

It is just that I don't want to spend the few hundred pounds to get those aftermarket Xenon light installed into the existing H7 bulb holder.

It's illegal , but costs less than £100 .

Howard, do you mean the aftermarket Xenon?

I know it's illegal and hence I don't really want to go down that route. Plus I don't want any aftermarket wiring.

How do you rate the Philips X-Treme Power H7 compare to the Osram Night Breaker H7?

don't know, not used the Osram .. but PXP is AutoExpress best buy, and quite a few on mbclub have them and like them
