C200 W202 - won't start & central locking broken

An update on my problem.
Whilst away on holiday my mechanic managed to get the boot open by undoing the bolts (as pointed out in this thread).
The reason the car would not start was because the battery terminals had not all been connected up properly...simple in the end and again as pointed out by Dec.

I always had the feeling that it was something simple so not being to hasty in getting rid of the car was a good call.

However I still cannot drive the car as the lock has an issue in that the boot /number plate lights stay on and drain the battery. The boot is therefore left open with the battery disconnected until my mechanic will can look at it.

Many Thanks Dec.

The boot /number plate lights staying on is likely to be a wire broken and earthing on the bodywork, probably at/inside the boot lid hinge. Remove whatever bulbs are staying on for the time being until you get it fixed.

Ensure the boot lid is fully open when you flood the lock key hole with WD40.

If you can’t succeed in freeing up the seized boot lock then you may need to take it apart, see… Boot lock fix - Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forums

Many thanks to Dec!!

Many apologies for not providing an update for so long. But good news, I finally got the central locking working!

It took a while because I had a nightmare with a seller on eBay. The first pump I bought was listed with the correct part ID, but then the breaker sent a different model that didn't work. So I had to return that one. The 2nd one I bought was from a guy who went holiday the day before I bought it! Just my luck.

Anyway, he finally sent it and I successfully installed it and now the central locking works like a dream! I forgot how loud the vacuum pump is! I really notice it now and realise that it definitely was the pump that had burnt out due to the lack of whirring noise from the previous one.

The pump cost me £25 which I was chuffed with!

The alarm is still faulty though so I have removed the fuse permanently. I plan to remove the alarm at some point.

Anyway, I just wanted to say a big thank you to Dec! Without your all your help mate I wouldn't have got it fixed. I am really pleased my old Merc is back up and running!

Thanks again Dec!

Cheers,
Andy

TDC sensor?

Hi Dec,

And Happy New Year.

My boot lock was finally cleaned and the battery as mentioned before is new and working fine.
However getting the battery fitted whilest being locked out of the boot was always the secondary problem.
Over Christmas I broke down. I was driving to the shops (about ten minutes) when the car just cut our and I had to pull over. After a couple of hours my mechanic came and thought that it was a loose battery connection (nut was loose). Car started and I followed him home. After ten minutes or so the car cut out again. I left it on the road overnight and in the morning it started no problem and got me home.
This time my mechanic actually saw the problem I have had and said that it could be the TDC sensor (not sure if I have remembered right). Basically he thinks that as the car heats up when driving this sensor sends a signal that cuts the car dead. If you leave it for some time then when cold the car starts up.
So what is this sensor and is it expensive to fix, buy??
