My mercedes was cutting out when the fuel guage reached a quarter tank. When investigated by the breakdown patrol it was noticed one side of the saddle tank had fuel in it and the other side was empty.
The local garage replaced the pump behind the driver seat with a non mercedes pump.(europarts) following this the cars fuel gauage is inaccurate and misreads. The car also breaks down above quarter tank.
Another garage has advised me to get a genuine mercedes fuel sender unit which involves both pumps and lines and this will resolve the fault. I bought a preowned genuine mercedes part from the carbreakers from the same model car. The mechanic installing this part told me the pins do not match and the plug does not fit. My car has 3 pins, the one i gave him had 2!
Following this i cannot find a 3 pin fuel sender from any breakers yard and genuine fuel sender from mercedes is fairly costly for an old car.
Is there any solution?
