C32 engine coolant loss

Neil, test your ATF for any coolant, I bet the coolant loss is in your transmission.

Take it to PCS to get it checked out as it could cost a fair bit if it's cought too late!

I've had an inspection camera under the supercharger and the gasket and area are free from coolant so it's a leak in the core, so all internal.

I thought the glycol issue was all related to the Valeo coolant radiator rather than the garrett supercharger intercooler under the supercharger??

How is you car now Neil?

Meh!! Not very well at the moment! Intercooler is due over from the states in a couple of weeks then off to Olly to be fitted! But in the mean time I've got a tempremental crank position sensor that kills the car occasionally! That's also being swapped out when it's with Olly! Other than that it's fine haha, and about £1.5k later will be back to normal! AMG ownership!

Don't, my car has cost me a small fortune to get to where it is. And I've still not finished.

Know what you mean.......I've spent more than it's worth over the three years I've had it!!! Smiles per mile is the only thing I cling too when the wife batters my ears everytime it costs money! Eventually someone will get a lot of car when it's time to admit defeat!

I know bud, I'm In the same boat. When the te comes to sell there will be no issues left to fix.

Just think of the cost to change vehicles and it is better the devil you know and smile every time you pull away and hear that engine.

Totally agree with that statement! Can't wait to get it all sorted now :-)

I thought my chargecooler was the problem as I was losing water and my oil level was going up, had sludge on my oil filler cap too.

I took my intakes off but it was dry as a bone........now I'm starting to panick thinking it's a head gasket issue although it's very rare the gaskets go on these engines. A friend of mine said the engine oil cooler is most likely at fault as they go on the inside allowing the water to mix with the engine oil.

Fingers crossed that's what it is.

How much is your import duty and vat going to be on the speedriven unit? Just out of interest.

Not 100% certain on the import duty/vat yet however we have come to an "agreement" with speedriven!

So I'll be finally picking the replacement intercooler up at lunchtime........£19 import duty and vat...... ;-)

And here is the actual unit! Looks pretty good from a laymans point of view!

Looks good!

Taxes cheap too.......result

So off on a lil road trip to Olly at PCS tomorrow! I'm quite interested in the intake temps on the way home! Today just normal driving I was up around 50 deg c (ambient is obviously quite high) so hopefully the replacement will keep it a bit lower than that!

Makes it look easy!!!!

Yup all done a dusted! Wasn't a "straight swap" so jack at PCS had to make some slight mods but all installed now! Just monitoring the coolant levels now (maybe I'm paranoid!!!) it's was defo the charge cooler as the coolant was all over the intake tracks!

So, after a few weeks on the replaced charge cooler I still get a steamy exhaust on the first start of the day! Doesn't really smell of anything just very steamy with water dripping from the exhaust! Characteristic of '32's or more sinister? No mayo in oil cap, no oily residue in coolant expansion vessel (so head gasket is unlikely - fingers crossed)! Had to top up the coolant since cooler install but Olly put this down to likely air locks in the system as it self bleeds after the initial bleed! Gearbox is smooth as it always has been so don't think the coolant was lost there (rad has been replaced in the past already). So ultimate question to my '32 owning friends......does yours release steam on first start of the day (I'd say for about 1-2mins) or is it completely clear?
