C350e anyone considering one?

Said yes to the Lease company last Wednesday, got a call Friday from the Dealer to confirm a mid-July delivery date. PremPlus, Driving Assist, Brilliant Blue, Grey Artico

(I'm hoping Moe is incorrect in his recent post... hoping the colour doesn't impact the date!)

Currently trying to understand how I can get the most benefit from the EV charger grant... think I'm going to just miss out, as you can only get it fitted 4 months in advance

Ridiculously excited - been 15 years since I had a from the factory new car :bannana:

Hi there all - newbie here - awaiting my C350e - I thought I was being slightly unusual in that I ordered a brilliant blue estate but it would appear to be a very popular colour having read a few of the responses in this thread!

I have considered rejecting the car but to be honest, I love it and wouldn't want anything else! If I was to get another, the gov grant is now less and it would cost me more so I have to wait, unfortunately..

I'll make some enquiries but it feels like a design fault to me - one Mercedes need to understand ASAP and fix!

I have a loan car stevehg, it's a C220d saloon from the dealer. I'm getting around 50mpg out of that right now but the problem I have is my C350e is an estate and the loan car is a saloon. I had the estate for a reason - I need the extra space! The dealer is looking to get me into an estate by the weekend, not sure on the spec yet but that will be better I hope. I just have to wait and hope the parts come in earlier.

On the positive side, my car isn't getting covered in salt / dirt and it'll come back to me nice and clean!!
Update, not on the repair of my car but the loan situation. Dealer gave me an E Class estate at the weekend to tide me over as I wanted something a little bigger (I have the C350e estate). Today they swapped that for an S Class. I'm looking forward to the journey to work tomorrow!!

Battery Power Sources

To be fair it is a big ask at the moment as lights heater etc are all on, have noticed turning things off does make a difference, as does outside temperature (if only I knew what that was, roll on the update)

And my own post of 9 Jan 16:"The C 350 e uses the currently most advanced form of hybrid technology. Its electrical energy storage unit is a high-voltage lithium-ion battery which can be charged from an external power source and so makes an effective contribution to the low consumption and emission figures. The battery is water-cooled, weighs around 100 kilograms and is mounted in a sheet steel housing underneath the rear axle in order to maximize crash safety, driving dynamics and boot space

"So, "high voltage" is probably why we need an external source. I can understand why a high voltage is used; it reduces the amperage required for a give power, thereby allowing thinner lighter conductors. Formula One KERS seems to use 400-500volts and a huge number of Amps."

I haven't got my C350e yet so rely on those who have. Would having lights/wipers working drain the high voltage propulsion battery? It seems unlikely but with the petrol engine not working, how do you provide power to the utilities? They will drain the Utilities battery not the propulsion battery unless the usual charging system is in action. Comments from the "haves" please.

Hi. Mine is due to be delivered on Wednesday. Not too far out with the estimate of early Jan, which was changed to mid Jan at the end of the first week of the month. Just had to wait a week for a delivery slot so not too bad at all.

Having a rolec charge point fitted next Monday. The installation partner, EV charging solutions, had me send images of where I wanted it installed, the earth bonding, and fuse board, in order to estimate any additional costs. I have had acknowledgment they have received my images, and a "all looks OK", but no word of any additional charges. I'm really hoping that means there aren't any. Particularly as, looking at what they charge extra for (earth bonding, additional fuse board, more than 15m cabling), mine should be a cinch to install!

Fingers crossed!

Trying to get excited about delivery.... It's been such a wait I think I have numbed out!
Exactly the same experience for me with EV Charging solutions. Rang them today to confirm they had received pictures, video link and info, and got the 'all seems ok' response. Booked in for Fri 5th

Never mind work... i would be doing a coast to coast trip in it tonight!!

Main hv battery is used for heating etc, and i belive that can be proved with preheat. Battery needs a minimum charge for preheat to be available, in addition running preheat on a cold day for 15 mins reduces the battery by approx 33% if not pluged in (which has been documented on here).
As we are only getting a 15mile range 33% loss is a 5 mile range reduction. I have seen this effect most mornings i forget to preheat when pluged in. car shows range of 13 miles leave home everything on, true range 6 miles before ice comes in.

not on pure ev from start, only when on a long run in hybrid mode and then i get roughly 50/50 split between ice and ev

Most I have seen on the range is 16 got about 11 if memory serves be correctly

I hope I'm wrong too! Mine is coming through Daimler fleet...

Thanks for that; but I'll eventually want to know more to understand how to get what I want out of the car and the best of it. For instance, I can see that the LI battery is needed to preheat a cold car taking many A/h. But once the ICE has heated the coolant water wouldn't that be a better heat source for normal heating; until it runs cold? Maybe drive with the ICE at idle to heat the cabin (and put some power back into the LI battery?) and save the LI power for the wheels? Maybe the system wouldn't allow that.

So much to know and so little time....!

BTW, isn't that my car (to come) you have there? It looks very smart indeed. I've ordered designo diamond white. Can't really judge on a computer screen.

Been meaning to try running on ice then switch after engine warm but as the worst of the traffic is outside my house use the EV to save fuel.
Will try driving on ice to the motorway then switching to see what range I can get when I next have the opportunity.

I went for Polar white , no cost colour made me feel better ticking the other option boxes , does look good when clean

My brilliant blue estate has just been ordered, only available in estate or c350e guises....so the c350e saloon in brilliant blue is quite unique!

My colleague has just got a confirmation on his saloon, I think the same colour as you, but he's been told late April (we shall see!).

Now very impatiently waiting confirmation on my brilliant blue estate.....

its definitely one of the more popular colour choices, although to be fair it looks fantastic in any colour!

Long grind waiting since last June, I've been ignoring it and it's only now I know it's at the stealer i'm excited! Roll on Monday.

Been able to get the VIN and Reg from Daimler and had no issues registering the connect me so far.

I like Brilliant Blue apart from the striking looks I'm pretty certain it's only available on the hybrid, for the saloon anyway.

Makes me think I should go get mine washed now before a trip to Manchester tomorrow :)

That's right I believe it's available on all estates but for the saloons only on the c350e.

Is the connect me standard on the c350e....I put it down as an extra but it got taken off so I assume it must be?

350e polar white 18" wheels premium with pan sun roof.

Hi chaps

I have ordered the above spec. But was just wondering if anyone has the same spec as me, and would post some pictures please.

My order is due in April and cannot wait.

Cheers Gary

Wow! I hadn't thought of that; what about the wine I'm going to fill the luggage space with when I come back from France?

Seriously though, the battery is water-cooled and as Snowman says it should be fine; but we'll have to take his word for that for now.
I've had my 350e Estate since the end of Sept 15 and have covered 8.5k miles in it, many with a Dutch Shepherd in the back. The boot floor is no warmer/cooler than any other area of the car so no worries at all.
