C350e anyone considering one?

When reading the MPG, which by the way mostly reads 20to30MPG, am I to add the miles that the vehicle has been in electric mode and therefore not using Petrol? Or is this already added in.

Thanks
Graham.

Do you mean on the car readout? It's all taken account of, the electric miles are effectively not included in the mpg calculation. So 5 miles at 20 mpg followed by 5 electric miles results in a readout of 40 mpg. ish.

The efficiency is quite poor all told. I did 35 miles today and my readout tells me that I did 15 of those with engine off - still managed just 34.9 mpg

Love it though! Petrol was 1.50 ish per litre and is now £1 so I'm telling myself a 40 mpg car is the same price as 60 mpg car was - and I'd have this one

I'm averaging around 38 mpg for the roughly 6000 miles I've covered which is pitiful considering the 55 mpg I used to get from my A4 2 litre TDI but the C350e is so much more fun.

BiK aside, I'm thinking the BMW 330d would have been a more practical choice as the "fun" would have been permanently available whereas now I alternative between short bursts of Sport+ before returning to Eco.

However the 330d would have cost me £200 a month extra in tax and the novelty of it would have worn off but I can't see the c350e ever losing its appeal, it's great to drive in Eco or Sport+

Mind you I'm not paying for the fuel :)

I am convinced that within the next couple of years diesel will be taxed as the fuel of the devil and plug ins will have access to bus lanes, priority parking etc. - we all know the 134 mpg is ridiculous but I expected overall 40+ mpg and are getting that. What will be very interesting when the owners of the BMW 330e start reporting their actual mpg

My only disappointment is the electric range. The car has just messaged me to say it's charged to 100% but the app tells me the range is....

Car arrived Tuesday - done just over 600 miles to Manchester, Cardiff & Birmingham.
Cant really talk to the economy as not paid much attention but the Sport+ mode is insane - I can't stop flicking the dynamic switch to the top.

I've only had mine 2 weeks and the temperature this week has definitely taken a nose dive which affects the economy. In saying that Im still getting between 70-80 mpg on my 23 mile each way commute to and from work, and my last 2 weekends ferrying the kids around and nipping out and about have been mostly electric so 99 mpg. I filled mine up when it arrived, and ive put in just under £20 in petrol to top it up this morning. I use the distronic a lot on the motorways (the haptic pedal is way too weird!) and I think that makes a big difference to the economy by coasting and regenerating, especially on the M62 where you can never really get going before youre slowing down again for the traffic. I'm looking forward to having some warmer weather though as the battery seems to drain a lot quicker when its colder.

oh and the other thing is that the car 'steers itself' when using distronic, which is bloomin outrageous!!

In my car, the mpg definitely takes into account all of the electric usage. So the mpg improves the more electric miles I do. Since I had my home charger installed this week I have reset the trip meter and we're currently showing 94.1 mpg from 62 miles completed. The petrol gauge has hardly moved. Before installation I was lucky to get into the 30s on mpg and filling up the admittedly small tank every week.

Plugging it in makes a massive difference. I've read on this thread that there are a few people who aren't planning on charging at home (which is a whole other debate!) as they are more than happy with the BiK savings for such an amazing and powerful car. I dont think i could cope with all those visits to the petrol station though.

The car said 16 miles electric range this morning, and that's pretty much what I got. BUT, I think this relies on you making decisions on the most effective mode on each stretch of road. I live in Newport, work just north of Bristol, so I used E-SAVE until I was coming down the hill to J24. I then flipped into HYBRID until the on ramp of the Severn Bridge, when I flipped to E-SAVE again until I was on the crest of the rise and coming down the other side. I was doing about 60 all the way and ended up with 72.4 mpg from a 25-mile run.

All I need now is somewhere to charge at work.

It seems our company car policy is starting to change. I went on to the lease company's website as I sometimes do, looking for quotes just out of interest, and I saw Tesla have been added. I clicked on "Model S" but it showed 0 results. I'll have a look to see if the i3 or e-Golf are on there yet.#

Edit: Yep, pure electric cars are on there now. Which is weird because we're told we have to choose a car which is capable of getting us to meetings and back, hence we'd need something with a 300 mile range at least, with no charging infrastructure at either end. Even the i3 range extender can't do that.

If it does then expect everything we buy to have big price increases as haulage companies will have to pass on the cost

For me the problem is reversed. We are getting charge points at work, it's the at home charging which is trickier as I don't have a drive.

I have a 19 mile commute, mostly single carriageway A roads typically managing around 50mph with a few queue bits.

About the time I was placing my order my 10-year old daughter told me of a YouTube clip she had seen of a car steering itself. I told her I didn't think that was legally allowed anywhere yet. Then I checked in more detail what I was about to purchase and had to apologise to the young lady. :fail

Do we get the "Stop-Go Pilot" where the car follows the one in front in queues at toll booths, etc? I can't find a direct reference to this particular toy amongst the Driving Assistance pack details.

I'm hoping the Stop-Go pilot (as per the Youtube toll booth video) is a combination of the Distronic and the auto-stear ... maybe I've assumed that incorrectly ...

Hi. My biggest concern/sticking point is the size of the boot on the estate. I currently have a Passat with 600 litres of space, and the quoted reduced 350 litres in the C350e is a big difference. It's about the same as a Golf or A3. Do you find it a limitation on family trips or holidays, or is it a matter of supplementing with a roof box? Day to day is not a problem, I just know the Passat boot is maxed out come holidays and Christmas. Could be a good excuse to buy less presents and take fewer clothes!
