C350e anyone considering one?

Had the grant turned down for the home charger.. Installer contacted me at the weekend, first time it's happened to him, maybe a clampdown on rogue claims.. I was going to suggest perhaps they should do the same for overcharging..

Was told that according to appendix D I would be liable for the full cost, told him he was obviously referring to a different appendix D than me.

Bottom line, sent the installer more paperwork and told him if it wasn't sorted he could come and rip it all out as I could buy a lot of fuel for £1050 which would more than cover the 12 miles a day electric charge. Doesn't look like the cars turning up now til the end of March, getting fed up with the whole thing tbh.

Did they give a reason for turning it down ?

Maybe try a different installer ?

look.... look.....Look...LOOK... Temperature gauge. :bannana::bannana::thumb::thumb::rock:

Just need to pop to the MB dealer myself now for the upgrade. :D
Does this mean that UK cars get the temperature gauge as standard now or should I be asking for the software upgrade when the car arrives at the dealer?

Is your temp displayed on every screen since the upgrade? Mine is on the right hand side of screen and only displayed when I have the trip summary up - not really that helpful.

Already installed, want an order number rather than a letter from the lease company, car is yet to be delivered hence no vin or reg.

Fair enough. I used my order form from the MB dealer

Hi B33fy I would just stick to your guns, I had my Rolec fitted last June based on MB dealer giving me July/August delivery date and at this stage( Car now due next Tuesday ) I have received no official paperwork from MB other than a letter confirming the order.

Hope this helps.

Email OLEV directly and deal with them, they were very helpful when a colleague had a similar issue with his installer. He sent them the paperwork directly and OLEV told him it was all in order and to send their reply to the installer which was accepted. Hope this helps.

I've just ordered a new charge unit, got in just before the grant change to replace my existing 3.6kw type 1 unit for a 7kw type 2 unit. The existing unit is 3 1/2 years old but apparently, when you replace the car you are also eligible for the grant again. Being fitted on Wednesday and should just be a swap out of the unit and MCB.

Had the 350e nearly 3 weeks now and it is a fantastic car even though the electric range is very poor!
European manufacturers should take a leaf out of the American manufacturers books and give genuine expected range figures. My last car was a Chevy Volt with an advertised range of 32 miles and I could achieve that in this cold weather and nearly 50 in the summer.

Worth a try but, if you do write (e-mail) OLEV directly, I hope you have more success than I did.

On 4th/5th of this month I e-mailed twice to OLEV's two different addresses and did not receive the courtesy of an acknowledgement - never mind help with the two simple queries I made. The "good" contractor I was negotiating with took over and got the answers from OLEV without difficulty. So the installation is now done and dusted (on a wooden post set in concrete). A job well done but still no car yet! OLEV were happy with a serial-numbered order form; there is still no VIN although I have selected the "16" plate registration number from the dealer's allocation. Roll on April....!

BTW, the "good" contractor a small local firm - great. Cost £260. The "rubbish" contractor a National concern kept adding extra requirements and questioning the house electrical capacity etc. Sent him packing when he got to £480 and wanted to impose a two-week delay for electrical usage monitoring. Both amounts after allowing for the £700 Grant.

I was intending not to bother with the special electrics ! Can I just get away with a normal 3 pin external socket [emoji848]

New car due

Having ordered in September, the leasing company has advised that it has arrived at the dealer. Asked them not to register the car until March.
Got to say this is the second car I have got from them and they have been brilliant

I'm planning to get a socket put under our fuse board in our outside cupboard (on its own trip too) that way it's new wiring, local electricians quoting around £125 for an RCD one, can use for mower, pressure washer etc too then :)

ok guys i now have my C350e and am trying to load speed cameras from pocketgpsworld onto the command system any help greatly appreciated I have the sd card but it is not being downloaded when in the car.

If you've followed the instructions on pocketgpsworld then it should be straightforward.

Only thing is you need to go into the settings menu and import them as poi's on the comand Nav menu

To be honest I don't find them that useful because the sheer quantity of potential sites etc means I have to disable the audible alert, (it beeps constantly on A roads), and I find myself seeing a huge number of false alarms.

The novelty soon wore off for me, still have the visual alerts enabled though.

One thing I would say from personal experience is to be careful charging at the full 13A. My outdoor socket has failed with a big crack running across the face plate. I presume this is down to heat generated from a continuous 13A draw.

House was completely rewired 20 months ago so all new kit and the socket is in a car port so loads of air flow. Bearing in mind it seemed to happen overnight about a week ago I hate to think what it would be like during a summer's day with 35 degrees ambient temp.

would be good if anyone is aware of an outdoor socket that's officially rated for 13A continuous. I would suggest that's one major benefit of having the charger installation done.

If you're using the Mode 2 cable with a 13A domestic plug and the "brick", it is likely that you are charging at only 8A. The car should regulate it. Does the car not tell you what the charge rate is? (I'm still a non-owner thirsting for knowledge.)

If this is wrong, someone will correct me!

The maximum charge rate can be set in the menu options on the instrument panel. I seem to remember that the options are 8A, 13A and maximum (16A).

There are also two selectable charging rates on the brick at 8A or the full 13A.

Come on chaps few pics please?!
