C350e anyone considering one?

Have to say getting a bit frustrated with my C350E. Having been off the road for a considerable time earlier in the year having the car not charging and battery warning light issue fixed I now find that I have lost most of the electrics in the central console and the tablet is dead. This means no phone, radio, media, sat nav, command unit. I can't change the dynamic settings or mode. Earliest Merc can get it in is just under two weeks away.

Hi Dodgy

1. Yes, I'm using the OFF reading for the electric miles. I have considered that if the engine is OFF, then the engine isn't running, even at idle, in which case no fuel is going to the engine. So even if the car isn't running in E-mode it is still travelling / moving without petrol/ICE.
2. Good point. I have actually just changed tariff to a better rate, so I will contact my new provider to check as I do charge mainly at night.

If your figures are very similar, is the length of your typical journey similar to mine, or are you achieving these figures with longer trips?

Really??

That's a bit off.

Mind you, have they lent you something nice to play with for a couple of weeks? :D

Unfortunately not, as its the car is driveable and its just "auxiliary" functions then I have to wait!

I would put your foot down a bit with that one.

Hah! Next time you order a car and they want £3,000 for the Premium Pack, just tell them they are only "auxiliary" functions and you want them for nothing!
Bloody chancers. Have you another dealer you can try?

I do absolutely love the car, but something needs to be done about manufacturers blagging figures which are not realisitc.

if I tried to sell my house and said, it will cost you £2 per month for heat and elec it would not be allowed... So how the Effing hell are car manufacturers allowed to get away with absolute crap they tell us about the MPG. Why should we take it with a pinch of salt., why dont they give us realisitic actual figures. and be held to them

Was about to use the lease hire company hot line to see if they had any leverage when I went out to the car and pressed the start button to find everything come to life! I guess it just didn't want to get up this morning!!

I was going to tell MB something similar at the C350e market research meeting in London tomorrow.

I'm 3 Months and 3500 in
Average mpg: 44.1 - expect this to go up a little as I didn't have access to a charger for a while at the start
Commute is 70 miles, can't charge at work

Previous car was a 320d and got 48mpg over its lifetime

Absolutely love the car. Have not had any issues. It's rediculously easy to drive - light steering, auto, soft suspension, active cruise control is brilliant on the m6 - I'm much nicer when I get home to the wife than I used to be, prefer the sat nav but not perfect, like the mobile app(s).

Wouldn't get the sun-roof again. I'm sure it's great for kids - but I don't see the benefit as a driver. And does anyone put the roof back ever??

Key thing is I'm sold on electric. Very tempted to put a deposit down on the Tesla 3. But by July 2019 think there's going to be a great range of cars to choose from.

I agree on the roof, I really don't like sun roofs and pano roofs.

Funny - this is my first (of 5) Merc's with a sunroof and I think it really makes the car feel much more airy. As it doesn't take any headroom, in fact it adds a bit, it's a real boon to me being over 6'. The child in me also meant I had it open all summer when I was poodling around and a big smile when it closed approaching a tunnel and opened when exiting !

If you have a short stretch of road with a stop at the end and you don't have a lot of battery left, the chances are you're going to accelerate on ICE and get 20mpg then cruise and stop on electric. But the ICE did 90% of the work and doesn't get the credit.

I do a lot of very short journeys on electric and occasional long ones that keep delaying my laughable dream of a 135mpg tank.

I understand your point now, and very valid. At times in Hybrid the ICE is also charging the battery, especially if a destination has been set in the satnav, so that will eat into the mpg too.

Taking that into account I still think the ICE is sub 30mpg thank's to a heavy backside full of battery.

Personally I use the sunroof whenever I can, just love the open top feel.
As for the pano, my kids love the view from the back.

Just reading the info on Command Online and it appears you can dictate SMS messages? See this which is copied and pasted below;

Dictation

Want to dictate your text messages? Not a problem with the text message function. Create an SMS and tap on the microphone icon to select the "Dictation App". Dictate your message. Once you have finished, the text will be displayed in the app. You can select and correct individual words. Accept the final version and send your text to the recipient.

So does anyone know how to access this or use it?

THanks,

THanks,

Don't most phones do this themselves? My old iPhone has no problem taking a dictated text in the car via the Bluetooth connection to the car audio. I'm sure at some point I will find a reason to regret having not specified COMAND, but not yet.

Hi there - first post on this forum so hi !

I've been looking at the C350E for a while & been very frustrated by the lack of info out there - so great to have this forum as a resource :) And apologies for a lengthy first post !

I'm now in the trade-up window for my company car (Leaseplan), I'm currently driving a Citroen DS5 diesel hybrid (89 g CO2 which seemed saintly 4 years ago ! Or at least compared to the 172g CO2 of my previous Company Car -Scirocco 2.0 TSI).

I have really enjoyed the 4 years of the DS5 hybrid (although it is a bit of a wide beast); 89g CO2 but 200 bhp on tap + 4wd or ZEV only modes - although only up to 39 miles an hour & ZEV range less than 10 miles realistically... plus you have to drive with the air con off or it automatically kicks out of ZEV mode).

I'll be honest - I'm not looking at the C350E for MPG savings... this is purely a BIK saving enabling me to have a very sexy looking 40 grand car with leading edge tech & 290 odd BHP on tap for the same price net in my monthly salary as a 27 grand Ford Focus !

The recent Fully Charged video is a brilliant resource and has given me a feel for the drive & the inside the cabin as this is this video giving full description of the advanced driving aid pack:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yClWupSxUw

I feel Robert Llewellyn's pain ref MB too - the earliest I can get a C350E demo is in January ! And I have to order a car by December !:wallbash:

I'm also looking at a BMW 330E & and have got a demo car for a long weekend next week without no trouble from BMW.

However I know I'm going to order the C350E coz I've pretty much fallen in love with it... & that's before even driving it ;)

I'm looking to spec:

- Sports Premium +
- Driving Assistance
- Black ash
- Black Artico
- Privacy glass
- Umming and aahing between Obsidian Black & Brilliant Blue - Obsidian black is stunning but with the interior trim & upholstery it could end up being a hearse... or Darth Vader's choice of style (especially with those lovely brake lights).

I was going to go for Night Pack but understand the larger wheels would impact BIK

Likewise now the AMG version is available while it is still 48g CO2 I understand that ordering the AMG version would adversely impact both BIK and Govt Grant - is this correct ?

Also as daft as this sounds - I'm getting a PHEV but no where to charge overnight.. the Citroen DS5 charges itself regeneratively through braking or throttle lift-off... I'm guess the C350E will be the same ? Plus there is the charging mode I could use.

Again MPG gains on long journeys is not my main factor for getting the C350E.. I do a lot of local journeys which I currently waft around in ZEV in the DS5 so hoping the same would apply for the C350E.

Also does anyone know if Apple Play works with COMMAND in the C350E pls ? MB dealers I've contacted don't know themselves!

Thanks for any & all input & feedback :)

Hi,

Another soon to be owner here.
I have ordered the C350e Sport Premium Plus with Night Package in black, order placed in Sept with estimated delivery being Jan 2017.

I am looking into the Gov home charging station scheme, any recommendations of a good model?

Thanks

Hi yes if you look for "Rolec" they the home charging units 16amp or 32amp. Should only cost you £200 after the grant
