C350e anyone considering one?

I was trying to keep it simple, but I got 9 miles from a charge today.

Your increase from 40 to 42 mpg is equivalent to getting 3 miles of electric range. I'm pretty sure you must get more than that, so maybe there are other differences?

I have a 260 mile trip scheduled for Tuesday. Not looking forward to ruining the current 90mpg tank...

I have 265 miles to drive today and then back tomorrow, expecting 44mpg hopefully. I've found a free pod point near my destination :)

The 19 miles range thing is definitely doable. I got 20 miles yesterday from a 22 mile trip. I was fully charged and my display was telling me that I had 13 miles of range. Admittedly yesterday was really warm and there were a few 50 mph restrictions on the motorway so I was driving slower than I would have normally done and using less power/battery. Nonetheless it is possible!!

I'm not sure that 20 miles with the engine off is the same as 20 miles electric range.

If I use petrol to get me from 0-50mph then electric to maintain 50, I'm pretty sure I could get 15 miles on battery power (on a warm, dry day on a flat road with no headwind). But my electric range would have been nil, because I used petrol immediately to get up to speed. If I'd done the acceleration using battery power it would have taken a chunk out of my range. Maybe only a mile or so, but there would definitely be some impact.

Also, if I coast 200yards up to some traffic lights with the engine off, is that electric range? I wouldn't have used much (if any) fuel in my old diesel to do the same thing, so I'm not sure it counts.

Finally, if my car charges the battery from the ICE on one stretch of road then runs on battery a bit later, that's not pure electric range.

I did a 260-mile motorway journey last week with no charging after I started and did 68 miles with the engine off:

To judge the electric range, we have to stick it in e-mode and see how many miles we can do before the engine turns on. Or am I being too strict?

I think that's what I did (sticking it in e mode and draining it before it depletes and switches to hybrid). Yes, there was coasting etc but the engine didn't come on at all until I was 3 miles away from home. Appreciate its really complicated and that there's a difference between range and 'engine off' but it's the the most I've managed to achieve so far and I'm really pleased!

That is impressive. I don't think I've ever done more than 12 miles. [emoji45]

Usually about 17 for me. Its pretty much flat the whole way. The lower speed definitely makes a difference.

20-40mph is the sweet spot for economy, but only if there's little breaking involved. I wouldn't advise it on the motorway though, even in a 50 zone...

Hi,
I'm thinking about one of these. I was here 2 years ago but was put off by ridiculous lead times and no chance of a test drive and no knowledge of the car in the dealer channel. However, I went for a test drive yesterday and was very impressed. One problem is that still nobody in the showroom seems to know much about them at all! I also find the MB website pretty unhelpful and the best info so far has come from the various online video reviews.
I'm amazed that DriveTheDeal seems to be suggesting that a basic model but with metallic can come in at just under £30k (that's with a £10k deposit contribution from MB).
Unfortunately, I'm rather taken with the estate version, and the discount is lower and the starting point higher.
I'm also wondering if anything can be done on a personal lease basis - or maybe I should try to do it through the company - I need to research the BIK situation.
I'm wondering if I have understood all the model variants correctly, as there seem to be more options now - and perhaps some features that were previously standard have been moved into option packs. eg. airmatic?
But for now, I think I'll just cruise around this forum (perhaps read this whole thread!) to see what pearls of wisdom are on offer from the ClubForumites!
Cheers,
Alex

I see there's also an E350e - but only in saloon form, not an estate - is that correct?

A new started at our company went to look at getting one as a company car but the lease rental has gone up so much the company said he'd have to pay £200 a month himself if he wanted one, so feeling very lucky....weak pound and brexit uncertainty seem to have had a big impact :(....he's gone for a Golf GTE.

I believe that to be correct. I have an E350e salloon and it's a fantastic piece of kit IMHO

Has the lease rental really gone up? I've not seen much change. I think something like £230+VAT on a 9+23 is still doable, and was the same about 2 years ago....

BTW, has anyone got the estate here? Coming from a Skoda Superb, I'm worried that I'll feel a bit cramped in the saloon! ;-)

Actually, not really, but I would miss the boot space.

I think the BIK has increased from 5% to 7% on company cars.

From memory BIK on the standard setup (17" wheels and under 50 g/km) is 9% in 17/18, 13% in 18/19 and 16% in 19/20.

Planned to drop back to 14% I think when the new 'miles on electric' bands are supposed to come into play.

Yes. I think when BIK hits 15% there's no point in doing it through the company.

I think it's still worth it.

£40,000 car at 15% = £6,000 @ 40% tax = £2,400 = £200 per month.

I don't think an individual could finance a £40,000 car, plus insurance, tyres and servicing for £200 month.

I appreciate there are costs to the company too, but I think low CO2 vehicles are still an attractive benefit to offer.

I have the estate. It's not cavernous: 350 litres to the parcel shelf, I believe. More like the previous shape of BMW 3-Series than a Superb.

You probably need an S-Class to rival a Superb for space. :D
