C350e anyone considering one?

Picked mine up today and took the partner out tonight on the dark roads of the Peak District. Don't regret getting rid of the BMW for a minute. The quality is leagues apart in terms of refinement and ride comfort. Even is sports plus the damping is so much better than the BMW.

Messing about I got 47mpg on 180 miles today. I've been giving it a bit of welly mind!

The torque from 4000rpm at 70mph is insane. It pulls and pulls and pulls!

The ILS headlights are a must tick option if you can stretch to it too!

Hi, newbie here!

If you don't mind me asking what are the key benefits of the ILS headlights in the real world?

Cheers

You switch them on and the car will sort out the best lights for the situation. The cameras will dip the main beam if you approach another vehicle or one approaches, in fog it lowers the beam, the lights swivel when you turn.

Mercedes-Benz TechCenter: Intelligent Light System
Thanks for that wivenhoe.
Being a gadget tart I just said yes to those lights and you have just explained why my money was not wasted :)

I've had ILS xenons on a c Class Coupe in the past.
They were great, the turning function specifically.

One you can certainly soon learn to live without though.
Not got them on the new C350e, stretching budget as it was!

Well, if you live in a dark area with no street lighting like I do, you get to drive around with main beam on all of the time and it puts a shadow against other cars either coming towards you or ones that you are following.

Tonight for example, we followed a car and lit up the trees in front of it in the distance without actually lighting up his car....awesome!

Makes me envious I couldn't add the ILS, does sound awesome indeed.

Still think my new car will have whistles and bells aplenty, especially as my current 62 plate A4 black edition doesn't even have a glove box light or courtesy light over the sun shades.

It is however very frugal, drove back from Aberdeen in the week, 7 hour drive back to the Midlands at steady 77 MPH in Scotland and on M74 as "safety" camera vans seem to proliferate.

Did 58 MPG according to the on board computer, rather hoping that the C350e is going to be at least as frugal!

We'll see... Be surprised if it's as good.
Can't really beat diesels for long cruises.

Shame that petrol is now more costly than diesel after all these years, right about the time I'm switching back to petrol!
Ha.

There the same price in London today :thumb: just think of the people you are not killing by not having diesel lol

Think we are making the jump just at the right time to look down our noses at those filthy antisocial oil burners :)

Just had my Rolec home charger installed...just need a car to plug it in to!

Was told last week that my car was in Southampton, but still not had it delivered.

Anyway, just looking at the price of charging when not at home - on the Polar website it states around £1.20 per hour is normal. assuming it takes 2 hours to fully charge giving a maximum of 20 miles, that equates to a minimum of 12p per mile. Looking at the current cost of petrol I doubt it will ever be worthwhile charging away from home.

Has anyone else come to that conclusion or am I missing something?

Good news aout the car location -

In regards to charging, if you had a pure EV (BEV) and fast charge, its worth it, not with a PHEV.

So, just look for the free ones and use them.

The key question is, however much fuel does it use to charge on the go v paying to charge away from the home. - that will be a good figure to base charge rates on. Time = money and all.

Just tried to buy C350e at Mercedes World, Brooklands but was quoted 9 months delivery! Does anyone know if any other dealers have a stock by now?

£1.20 per hour seems really expensive, thought it was around £1.00 for a full charge, that's a figure I've heard bandied about anyway.

So today is a good day :D :bannana:
Dealer rang me to provide my car's chassis number. Next, get the retention certificate and expect delivery on or around the twelfth of next month, might be sooner :)

Picked mine up today. Worth the wait. It had no charge and with very mixed driving over 50 miles it averaged about 40mpg. Now it's charged I'll report back the mpg in representative driving.

Was a bit embarrassed in front of the missus - put the thing on charge (Rolec) at home just to see if everything worked - it did, but I couldn't disconnect it !! After much huffing and cursing I noticed a sticker on the inside of the charging flap - you have to use the unlock button on the key up close to the plug attached to the car !
