C350e anyone considering one?

http://youtu.be/2zZnr3XesGY Interesting video on production of Mercedes c class in Bremen. I have exhausted all videos and articles on the C350e so have moved onto anything C Class related now. Not sure if anybody else is as mad as me??

Possibles...

Did you see the James May programme last week on BBC2?
There is a fair bit of driving around test tracks, re-tests, driving around plant to dispatch point, driving onto trains, off trains, ports onto ferries (like one massive car park) and when at destination from port to presumably another delivery area in country of destination etc.

I've seen a batch of brand new Fiat 500s (about 30 cars) in a large convey being driven along the M4 to a destination. Don't know if Mercedes do this from one dealer to another dealer within the same network who has stock.

Maybe dealers allow test drives in cars that have already been sold? :dk:

Depending on where the car is bought e.g. Drive the Deal, the default method of delivery is dealer driven delivery unless extra is paid for transporter.

Back in the day of the early digital odometers providing the mileage shown was under 1000 miles a three to five second press of the reset would zero the display, this was to negate exactly the problem of customers complaining their "new" car had a bunch of delivery miles on the clock when handed over.

Pretty sure the practice has stopped being implemented now as delivery systems are a little more streamlined and not so many miles generally get built up.

Edit.....it only worked three times.........in case you were wondering.

Hi,
Interesting article on the 350e doing the infamous "Elk test"
Mercedes-Benz C350e Underperforms In Swedish Moose Test

That weight in the boot is not helping.. It's a bit concerning taking into account them tyres will be at full tread and its dry when comparing to other cars in the same test.

Stick half worn summer rubber on, on a cold winters day below 5'c when the summer rubber compound has harden, in wet greasy conditions you will have your hands full big time.

Fortunately we don't encounter many elks in the West Midlands :)

Elks or not all of this negative stuff is just water of a ducks back as far as I'm concerned. I think the 350e is a super car and a far better experience than the one I had in the Jaguar XF. I and all others that have ridden in the 350e have been greatly impressed. I love it :)

I guess the 350e is a little bit like the 911 in that the weight distribution is a bit wrong with a lot of weight sat at the back of the car. Something to watch out for in winter that's for sure.

I usually drive mine in "Individual" mode, with the sports suspension active and sports steering. I wonder if it would perform better in the Elk test in this mode?

Over the years I heard loads of BMW and Merc drivers saying that they put weight in the boot in the winter to help - I have no idea if this works ! I have had winter tyres on my last 2 Mercs and have bought a set to put on when it drops below 7c

I think the weight helps you get started, by giving you some help with traction, but doesn't help much with lateral motion. Hence sideways RWD cars on roundabouts in winter!

Ordered in August got a date today.., sort of.. end of February'ish.

Hi,
I had a BMW 123d and used winter tyres with great success.
Even in the snowiest conditions, I never got stuck.
What was really hilarious was watching Golfs and other front wheel drive cars try to follow me up steep, snow covered roads - assuming that if a BMW can get up the slope they could - but they then would get stuck!
One year, I did not even bother to take the winter tyres off during spring - they lasted until the next winter.
Cheers

Not knocking it, but I was surprised by the lack of lateral grip on perfectly dry tarmac in ideal "conditions" at 42mph.

Note, the W205 non hybrid's completes the test perfectly well.

With any luck will have power laid on tomorrow and once my source London card arrives I will try to enjoy electric only travel.

Got my delivery date for start of may :bannana:

Deane. It's strange that drivethedeal has the C350e back on its site - true discount is now only £3k but they say the deal is for cars ordered before 31/12 but they are saying delivered before 31/03. Might be worth a chat with them and if that's right ask your lease company how can that be
