C350e owners club

A month in, and 1K miles : A few questions !

OK.. So I am a month into ownership and loving the car.
I do however, have a couple of question that i am hoping you clever lot can help with !

1. I keep getting a high pitched "double beep". Almost like a notification of some sort (but higher pitch than text message for example). Happens in random places, thought it might have been a proximity warning first couple of times as other vehicles were close, but then happened on open road this morning!

2. I wondered if the brake lights come on under engine/motor braking regen ? Noticed a couple of people getting quite close

3. On "take off" using hybrid engine+ motor combo, i often feel quite a dramatic "clunk" as i take off. REALLY unsettling!

Does anyone have any input/experiences on the above ?

(350e estate, drive assist package, NO PP pack, 17" wheels for tax reasons!)

1. Pretty sure that is the proximity alert. I get it going past a road crossing and I have had it before when a bird flew across me.

2. Seen answers on here both ways!

3. Never had that. I'd get it checked out at your dealer.

Re: 1. that sounds like the blind spot warning. I get it turning off roundabouts when there is a car waiting to join, also when I am pulling back in quickly after an overtake - obviously I am the antithesis of a lane-hogger! Certainly that warning is just the two loud bleeps. Try indicating briefly when a car is alongside you and in your blind spot to compare the sound. Just make sure the other driver doesn't see you indicating! Maybe if you were in open road it was detecting something like a spider in the sensor range?

2. The balance of opinion seems to suggest that there are no brake lights on auto regen (as opposed to light braking regen) which I find alarming. Just recently I've started dabbing the brake pedal just in case. It would be good to have a definitive answer...

3. Not aware of a clunk as you describe!

I am several months in and still enjoying it! [emoji3]

2 - They just want a closer look, it's a fine vehicle.

Observations for today.....

This colder weather and the need for the heater is definitely a sizeable hit on the electric range.....i'm running out a good 1-2 miles earlier.

The traffic descriptions on the standard sat nav are awful......for example today it says A272 at A24 at West Grinstead for a queue of traffic on the A272 going into a village called Cowfold.

West Grinstead and the A24 are not involved at all.....what is the logic behind the descriptions??

Agreed Satnav shocking !

Try going to M25 junction 12 and head south on the cubic meters (M3) ...[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

My Jeep does that! Advised me of delays on the M25 at the cubic meter turn off!!

For what it is worth, the junction between the A24 and the A272 is known as the West Grinstead junction and it is normally at these cross roads where the hold-ups into Cowfold start. Perhaps it was a game attempt to describe the overview?

I only have the basic 'Garmin' system not the command system. I have been very pleased with the way it finds fast alternative routes when there are hold-ups. I have beaten colleagues on a number of occasions when we have been going to the same destination but I have followed my sat-nav and they have followed theirs.

Have to agree with you on the alternate route stuff, that is good, just the voice/pronunciation and the way it describes traffic is not great. I also find not having a touchscreen and therefore having to use the dial or the touchpad highly time consuming. Shame you can't send stuff to it from the phone like you can do with COMAND....also annoying the app doesn't make it clear it's comand only.

The Command sat nav system will advise you of delays but just wont re-route to avoid them / find a quicker way. I'm often using the TomTom app on my phone to find faster ways of getting somewhere when there's traffic. I also find it is overly optimistic when it comes to arrival times - I don't hang around when driving but I've never managed to arrive in line with the initial estimated arrival time!

Not too impressed really, given how much it cost to have the command..

The COMAND system in my 15 reg E Class reroutes. Have you set it to do so? I can't recall which menu it is in, but it certainly does it and pretty well.

I don't recall seeing any option to set to get it to automatically re-route, will look through the options again in hope!

Perhaps reading the instructions would be a good idea for me also...

JP you need to have the routing set as dynamic and it will then automatically re-route - keeps saying your route is being changed due to traffic and can change every couple of minutes!

I have noticed the Comand sat-nav announcements can vary - going northbound into Milton Keynes it announces as Milton Kanes but going southbound in says Milton Keynes - very strange!!

+1 for this, I only changed it about two weeks ago and much better now!

That's the one!:thumb:

You'll need to keep an eye on some re-routes as it'll take you up and over some junctions if it thinks you'll save a few seconds. It also like diving off at Junc 8 on the M1 and take advantage of the A414 merge lanes to gain a bit of time if the traffic is backed up at the junction.

It has saved me driving into major holdups though, so I use the guidance even if I know where I'm going just for the live traffic updates and reroutes to avoid.

Yes it is better than the equivalent on my old BMW. Have to balance it with some intelligence and it does flip-flop a lot e.g. On my journey home where I could go m6 or m42.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. I vaguely remember setting it to fastest route based on the obviously naive belief that this would get me there the quickest, even if there's traffic..!

Three weeks in and loving it but I haven't seen many pics on here of the Cavansite Blue models so thought I'd post a couple. Thought it was a bit dark when it first arrived but love it now and in a bit of sunlight the blue calipers actually look good with it.

It's an effortless drive and the quietness in electric is great to the point it's quite disconcerting when the engine kicks in. The cabin feels really premium and the mpg is better than I thought. It definitely wins in traffic and short journeys but even with some faster longer runs not too bad.

The engine really does sound grumpy at low speeds but seems to be much smoother at higher revs and it's way too easy to be 20mph over because it feels so smooth. Learned most features on the car but still freak out when a noise or a light happens which I don't expect. You don't so much drive it as pilot it.

First day was a crisis when I found the 8m cable was just too short when parked on the drive unless I went right to the edge. It's 5ft higher than the garden so you can imagine the edginess of that first maneuver!

I keep finding I'm driving like an old granny because I'm constantly trying to get the most mileage on electric. My mates take the mick out of me but it's strangely addictive. Of course, traffic lights and open roads are far too tempting and I then mess up all the good work in Sports+ which is very satisfying.

Only thing not really loving is the Parktronic which is really temperamental. Sometimes works really well but it seems very unpredictable and the reversing into a bay we tried had us all screaming!

Overall still find myself smiling slightly every time I walk towards it and I regularly demonstrate to people the kick feature to open the boot. It's so bizarre, utterly unnecessary but strangely compelling. Oh, and everyone loves the old school analogue clock!

Spec: Cavansite Blue premium plus, grey leather, black ash trim, 17" alloys, led headlights.

Nice looking car. I also find myself smiling no my walk out from work.

I can't get the boot opening to work consistently. In fact its only worked in one place, the rest of the time I look like a lunatic trying to kick my car. Where are the sensors (side, middle?).
The one time it worked it seemed they were under the right exhaust.

Hi Derek

Right in the middle seems the best and works fine so far. I think the important thing is that the key has to be with you when you're there so it can detect it.
