C350e owners club

Nowhere on the tyre does it say RFT so I'm guessing the answer is NO to run flats, which I'm not too disappointed about as I understand the ride isn't so good but I would be nice to have something in an emergency; so I'll go back to the dealer and demand some help.

Thanks

Panic over. I've just found the tyre fix kit. Never thought to actually remove the towing eye tray and as the dealer told me there wasn't one I didn't look properly. Still you live and learn.

Funny - I noticed the same thing for the first time yesterday. I've had the car 14 months. I'll check for leaves !

I also have this sound, I first noticed it about two weeks ago. Its like a clicking / stretching sound on the passenger side that starts about 15-20seconds after starting, and lasts about 20 secs.

The fact that we are all getting suggests that it isn't something individual, but I certainly think it is air con / heating related as it has only started since the weather has got colder. That said I don't remember the noise last winter.

yes, Ive noticed it to, and am pretty sure its the aircon.

Quick question...

I'm currently unable to charge at home, will leaving it in hybrid mode all the time keep sufficient charge in the battery to use all 275bhp? Or is it necessary to use the charge mode from the engine from time to time?

Just leave it and it will sort itself out as you drive. Knock it back into Comfort when you have finished your qualifying lap. :D

I'm pretty sure the esteemed @CaptainChaos means that you will rarely have less than 10% charge because the battery management system gets very thirsty at 10% and charges automatically to keep charge at 10% or higher. Mine's never been lower than 9%.

If you floor it on an oval I guess you will eventually drop to something around 211bhp (or maybe less if the computer decides your need for speed is less than your battery's need for juice).

On a geeky note, I would love to know more about the battery. On the face of it, the battery appears to be 6.2kWh and the 10% level is 0.62kWh. Which means that when I squeeze 10 miles of pure e-mode out of a battery I'm using 500wh per mile. That's shocking compared to pretty much any BEV. Even a Tesla driven hard wouldn't use much more and I pretty much have to coast downhill to get 10 miles. It makes me wonder if some of the battery capacity is being held back for technical reasons.

After enjoying a lovely warm pre-heated car this morning the AC noise soon became irrelevant after a kind gentlemen rear ended me at high speed causing extensive damage to the back of my 350 :( Watching the police pull off the panels so they could move it to safety almost brought a tear to my eye after all the hours lovingly cleaning her.

thankfully I'm ok but MB are estimating that I won't get her back until mid - end of Jan.

That said it hasn't had its detailed inspection yet, whilst there is the expected panel work, boot and exhaust damage, the rear passenger wheel is bent and twisted, and it might be the batteries took a smack as well though there was no failure warning after the accident. If they are damaged, along with a bent chassis, it might be bye bye 350e, I hope not, but either way, it's a long wait through the coldest months when the pre-heat is the best feature.

At least your ok is the main thing, cars can be replaced..

Will be interesting to see what comes from the quotes for the repairs.. Did you get catch to get any photos ?

Very sorry to hear that :( I know how it feels!
Hope all goes well.

Oh no not good :(

Plugged in at 07:10 this morning, set at 13A, pre-entry climate on. Was 8:25 before it had the battery back up to 100%!......my weather station showed -7c at 7:10.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Hope you are OK and the other chap's insurance comes through.

Did you have PRE-SAFE, and if so, did you notice it trigger? (It's supposed to brake if you're stationary and tighten the seat belts).

It worked for me recently, I was fiddling with the sat nav and didn't notice a car in front stop to turn off. I got the warning beep, brakes engaged and seat belt tightened. Result: accident avoided.

That would only have helped if the other guy had PRE-SAFE.....

In the future their will probably be a system that detects someone is about to rear-end you and moves you forward though....

Vertical take off would be better!

Thanks for the kind words all, much appreciated.

I didn't notice the belts tighten, nor did the airbags go off, but I imagine the detection of a front impact alone would trigger them. They certainly went off in his 630i.

I'll keep you posted on the feedback from MB. I'm interested to learn how the batteries faired as it will tell how well protected they are in the boot.

I previously measured mine and it consumed 6.5kWh from 10% to 100% and no pre-heat which suggests some losses (as to be expected) during the charging process.

It's worth bearing in mind that the consumption for the 10 miles also includes lights, heating, audio / entertainment / sat-nav system. It's also lugging around the weight of a 2.0l petrol engine along with associated ancillaries and fuel in the tank so it is difficult to compare to a pure EV like Tesla.

In the summer I was getting not far off the 19 miles it's supposed to do (with very careful driving!), it's just the winter that kills it!

Out of interest, I managed to get down to 6% battery level once. It was when the car told me it had run out of fuel and would only run on battery. That was fun..!
