Hi, i changed mine just after i got my second hand 350e, went for oem ones from dealer as two different ones were specked when i checked, cost was about 70euros which was double the price and it took them about 2 months to stop squeaking but all good now and they have a good wear indicator on them to let you know when they need changing (hopefully not for a few years[emoji12])... My second choice was the bosch ones but cant recall the model im affraid..

Is that wear indicator the little warning triangle on the back of the blade? If so, it's a total con. It only indicates exposure to atmosphere, not any kind of indication of usage. Still got the original blades on mine after 3 years, they wipe perfectly, no squeaks or rattles. I got the 'you need new blades' warning at the first service after it had only done just over 2000 miles. For the recent service and 1st MOT (now 3 years old), I painted over the 'wear indicator' with Sharpie and it all passed without comment, as it should have.

Yea thats the one... I said i would get them as imwhen i checked the previous ownership details it looked like the car was sitting idle for a few months on some forecourt waiting to be sold.. The squeaking was possibly down to a build up of crap on the windscreen but as i said it was new to me so i said i may start off on the right foot, kept the old one also so may swap them out and test the theory sometime.. I’m not saying your old blades didn’t need changing, just that the “wear indicator” isn’t a wear indicator ;) I think the best judge of wear is whether they wipe properly or not!

It’s usually contact resistance to blame for the heating up. The other half of the equation being the plug of course. You have the right cable, so all you can do is make sure the socket is good quality and the connections are properly tight.

I fitted an MK Masterseal today. No heat marks on the back of the old socket or the wiring so contact resistance like you said? There were heat marks on the metal lugs of the fuse holder in the plug as well as the live and neutral pins of the plug.

I have left the car charging on the max setting for an hour and the pins are red hot again, moulded plug and cable is warm. When fitted, the plug is snug in the socket.

Is there a solution or is it inevitable that a domestic socket supplying 12 amps over 2 - 2.5 hours is going to crack?

That suggests the plug as the next weakest link doesn’t it. If you’re willing to do it, cut off the moulded plug and fit a decent MK one and see how that goes.

At that load, expect it to warm up a bit, but red hot, not so much.

Update on this....... It seems idiotically, that the State Of Charge part of the App requires BOTH the Set-Up and Remote And Navigation parts to be active.

This is correct. Bear in mind the Remote part is £39 for 3 years so it's not the end of the world. Look what function they use in the picture too... :D

Just had the same response from theMB Me team....but I don't buy it I'm afraid. The text on the MB Me website seems pretty unambiguous to me, and I quote:

"Whether during charging or before starting a journey - convenient remote control of your Mercedes-Benz vehicle's charging settings or Pre-Entry Climate Control is possible using your smartphone or computer"

That is for the "Remote & Navigation Services" package - the one I purchased.

Looking on the MB Me site for additional services I can buy, this is what is listed for the 'Remote Setup" package they insist I also need. Nowhere does it mention access to the battery SOC/charge settings. For clarity, this isn't a generic list, this is the one explicitly for my car (hence the expiry dates shown on some). I'm sure their response will be to try to wrap that up in the "remote retrieval of vehicle status" umbrella though.

Vehicle Setup
This service package contains:
  • Auxiliary heating/ventilation
  • Remote Window Control
  • Theft notification and parking damage detection
  • Remote Window Control
  • Personalisation
  • Remote Door Locking and Unlocking (Term expired on 16/12/2019)
  • Remote Retrieval of Vehicle Status (Term expired on 16/12/2019)

So, in true "retired bloke with plenty of time" style, I'm not letting this drop. Honestly, given the usual MB attitude to the idiots stupid enough to buy their product, I expect zero joy out of this, but I'll give it a go.

Chris, I am sure you will give it your all in your determination to make your Mercedes ownership as miserable as possible!! :p:D;)

Maybe I was lucky, but I received a pretty explicit email saying what did what and I knew I had to renew the Remote Services to use the pre-climate control. That feature is important to me living in the frozen north. A clip from the email is shown below to heighten your blood pressure.

As usual, Mercedes are struggling to provide a simple online service- this time, just showing me the services I’ve activated is really hard...

Got it working now. There’s a weird pattern of circles on the screen now. Why do they insist on this useless stuff when they can’t get the basics right?

I have these time-limited services active:
Vehicle tracker
Parked vehicle locator
Range on map
Remote Retrieval of Vehicle Status
Programming of charging settings and Pre-Entry Climate Control
Remote Door Locking and Unlocking
Geofencing

I don’t seem to be able to review the choices I made to activate these services.

If I look for orderable services, the site claims there aren’t any. I think that means MB are unwilling to sell me live traffic, or they’ve forgotten I don’t have it. [emoji849]

:)

I have renewed Remote Services and Navigation, and was expecting to be able to set pre-entry climate (which works...when it works) and to manage charging settings...which doesn’t work.....hence my ire.

I think the entire system was down around 12 today. Tried to set the pre-entry and couldn’t connect. Crap, innit. Given how infrequently I make use of this, the number of times it’s offline when I do try to is piss-poor.

Apologies Chris! I thought you were trying to get it working without renewing it. :D

Well, as expected, no dice. Got this back:

"The information on the website does not indicate that “Vehicle Setup” is required to use the charging settings, as you indicated. This information will be adjusted, since "Vehicle Setup" is required to use the charging settings."

No apology, just an 'offer' to help me pay the £79 to extend the remote setup package for 3 years.

Das Beste oder Nichts - clearly, it's Nichts.

****holes.

Ooops, retraction time. Seems I completely misunderstood the response - MB Me are offering to pay for the Vehicle Setup package as a gesture. Suitably grovelling response sent back, and this correction of course.

They will update the website info so hopefully no more confusion about it.

Das Beste this time then after all.

Hi folks,

I hope I found the right thread, I'm considering buying a C350e and I'm looking for some actual feedback from people who've owned the car for more than just a test drive ;)

What I'm looking at is 2017-2018 models with low mileage. Most of my commute is 25km each way, with a charging station at both ends. Once or twice a week I'll need to do 96km each way. The 96km commute each way will not have a charging station at the end, so it's down to the petrol engine most of the way.

I know that a diesel would make more sense, but the parking situation in Luxembourg is really abysmal, but all the garages have a disproportionate amount of chargers and parking reserved for PHEV/EV that having a plug-in basically guarantees me a parking spot. My other reason for C350e is that it offers a lot more for the price compared to the competition. I can basically get a C350e with air suspention, panoramic roof, burmester etc for the same amount of money as I'd have to spend for an Audi A3 e-tron! I'm also sure C350e would be a lot more comfortable to drive in than the A3.

What worries me though are the reviews I've read on sites like carbuyer:
Mercedes C350e hybrid (2017-2018) owner reviews: MPG, problems, reliability, performance | Carbuyer
Basically there's not a single positive review, they all have massive problems with the car, and that might explain why a 72k euro car is being sold for 31k mere 2.5 years later.

Can anyone tell me if these horrible reviews have any truth in them and what the ownership is like?

I’m being 100% honest here and I’d advise you to avoid the c350e. They are lovely to drive, have great extras (if you buy a premium plus), but the economy is an absolute joke and so is the electric range.

Although the battery charges to 15miles, a full charge takes 3hrs. That 15 miles doesn’t mean you’ll have 15 miles. You’ll probably get 7 miles from it, which is pointless.

I wish I knew all this before buying this car in August 2019. I would have either kept my BMW 320i sport or got a Ford Galaxy/Mondeo or VW Passat.

Basically, if you like comfort and performance but don’t mind the crap economy, go for the C350e. If economy is important, definitely avoid the c350e. This is based on my personal experience. I have a 16 plate c350e premium plus and looking to trade it in for another car.

Also, Mercedes dealerships are a bunch of idiots. They charge you a premium for a shocking service.
