C63 507 Edition Wide arch project

They won’t bind or lock on, it just overflows out the breather in the cap :)
I'd assume it'd the same principle as bikes buddy, that's exactly what's happened in that scenario anyway, although I've never had it happen on a car

Ooh🤩😍 some new shiny bits arrived this week.
One of the biggest concerns with the Facelift C63 is oil temps. Ranging from 104/108° on a daily drive but can also hit temps of 115/125 on very hot days combined with a heavy right foot.

I orderd this Oil cooler 4mths ago before the summer but delays were caused due to a shortage of specific aluminium that Setrab use for the cooling cores.
larger than OE by approx 70%, similar in size to the Black series to aid with high Oil temps.

1st job is to modify the under tray, this needs to be modified a little to take the lower cooling ducts supplied with the kit, these create negative air pressure to aid the cooler and remove excess heat from the engine bay.

I used a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade to cut out the sections that allow for the new ducts, then filed back smooth for a precise fit.

Now finished cutting the undertray for the ducts they need to be riveted in secure.

Now they're fitted in I then painted them black with VHT paint for an OE look and to protect them from the elements.

Next I have to remove the arch liners and front bumper to install the cooler and front ducting.
I'll keep the post updated tomorrow when finished with some final pics.

Thanks again for the continued interest and comments guys

Further updates from today.😁😁
I had some help today with my local garage, as they have a lift to make the job easier with some extra hands.

1st job of the day was removing the wheels to allow easier access to the arch liners, then taped up the panel edges to protect then against any possible damage.
IMG-20221021-WA0016.jpgIMG-20221021-WA0015.jpg

With the arch liners out removing the bumper was a very simple job, making sure we've fully disconnected the drl and parking sensors beforehand.
with the bumper now off you can see how small the OE cooler is compared the new larger version.
IMG-20221021-WA0010.jpgIMG-20221021-WA0008.jpgIMG-20221021-WA0003.jpg

then removed the Oe cooler, 2 of the mounting bolts snapped inside the cooler, thankfully I bought a new set for the job.
The Oe Mounting bolts are approx 3mm too long, so rather than adding a washer we chose to cut them down 5mm. Alignment on the OE bracket was perfect so no need for drilling anything.
Once we mounted the cooler into place, then fitted new O rings on the connectors we then found that the OE bolts are the right length, although still needed trimming by 5mm as the threaded hole wasn't actually tapped all the way down, alignment was perfect and all fitted together easily.
Finally mounting the front duct was simply a case of 4 new bolts, alignment was perfect.

Again with a before and after shot you can now really appreciate how much bigger the new cooler is.

IMG-20221021-WA0010.jpg20221020_104600.jpg

Back on with the front bumper then fired it up to check for any leaks, all was well so continued putting the car back together with the new modified undertray.
20221020_111713.jpg20221020_111704.jpg20221020_112221.jpg20221020_112302.jpg

After running the car upto temp, left for 15mins to check the oil level, it was approx 1.5ltrs too low.
I'm not 100% certain but even though we only drained 500ml from the cooler and lines, I can oy assume that as the cooler is 70% larger it'll hold 70% more oil.. so something to be aware of on future oil changes..
Now with the bumper fully installed you can see how well designed the new cooler is, fitted perfectly behind the lower grill.

Overall I'm very impressed with the cooler, other than some slight adjustment on the bolt lengths the unit itself is very well made from Setrab.
Now looking forward to some test drives to compare how the oil temps differ..

Thanks again for the continued interest..
TBC......

Great, Lee, this thread, gets better and better. 🙂👍
Thank you... I'm surprised its still ongoing.. when I thought it was Finished 😁.
I still have plenty more to do yet, finishing the Ohlins is next on the list in a week or so.

I have the same enlarged cooler kit installed in my 13' C63 coupe. Installation was done over a year ago. I'm very happy with this upgrade and have never seen oil temperatures over 110° even after some very spirited driving up mountain roads on hot days. When the oil temperature gets to 110° it then drops very quickly to 104-105° after lifting off the throttle. No problems fitting the enlarged cooler, except the need to cut down the holding bolts a few mm. I also passed a tap in each of the four fixing holes to clear any paint and debris before final assembly.

Good to know buddy... thanks for the Info
Have you still got the fan installed?
I chose to keep mine on for now till I'm certain that the temps don't get too high in traffic

Yes I have kept mine installed. I have heard of mixed comments with pros and cons, so I have left it in. Stuck in traffic jams in hot weather, I haven't noticed any major difference to be honest, so I'm leaving it as is.

I guessed as much mate, thanks for letting me know

Have read this thread from start to end and I am absolutely gob smacked on what you have done to it. AMAZING!! Attention to detail is on another level and I hope the car surpasses the original vision you had for it.

Thanks for taking the time reading..... its become quite a lengthy one.
I'd not really thought too much about how the project would finish, it still hasn't, even when I tell myself it is I then come up with another idea.

The next update will be next week when we install the final version of the Ohlins

One other cosmetic change on the horizon.
For a little while I've thought about changing the wheel colour to a dark bronze although it'll probably clash with the colour of the calipers.

With that in mind, I'm considering adding a 5mm silver or green lip to the wheel to separate the wheel colour from the tyre wall.
20221031_122138.jpg

Looking closely, you can see the design of my wheels had a very fine lip.
20221003_160521.jpg.
Taking that into consideration, maybe the design from the Legacy edition would infact work.
Screenshot_20221101-162944_Google.jpg.

Before making a final decision I've orderd some metallic green coachline tape to get an idea it would work.

A few ideas, Lee. 🙂
2 Bronze, 2 Gold and even 2 Silver, all are 19s and Lowered. The first four would probably clash with your Brakes, but just a bit of fun. 👍

When I was looking I liked the vossen CVR4 brushed bronze but didn't look quite right so went with shadow black
Different car and colour but the bronze does look nice

Shadow Black?
Got any pics of those?
I've also thought about having the wheels painted black with a green metallic flake

The shadow black wasn't an option with vossen but here's mine there very similar to grafite grey all 1 colour but looks like a shadow
