C63 507 Edition Wide arch project

So next... we're working on suspension and Braking components.

whilst the stock 360mm front/ 330mm rear discs are good for road use and the occasional track day, they're not amazing, the obvious upgrade option is that from the Black series.
390mm front discs, 360mm rear discs, Braided hoses and better fluid.

Starting with the fronts.
To upgrade them you only need to change the caliper mounts and discs only as the calipers are the same.

First up removing the calipers and discs, very simple job, with only 2 caliper bolts and the locating disc screw.

Once removed, you then need to remove the existing 360mm carrier and replace it with the 390mm.

Side by side, you can see the difference, these are available from MB directly or Epyteck.
Removing the old carrier is simply enough with some elbow grease, lots or groaning and sockets.
Once installed, a good clean around the hubs and behind the dust guard before fitting the new 390mm 2 piece Rotors.

Then just for good measure.. replace the rubber Hoses with steel Braided ones., not only will they give you better feel through the Pedal, they'll also be getting on a little so it worth the change.

Fronts now complete, wheels back on.

Re fitting the wheel, checking for clearance of the balance weights..
The pic may not show, its only about 5mm of clearance between the weights and the wheel.

Time to brake these in....

Looking awesome buddy👍 Could I have the Brembo part number please for the front rotors 😁

Yup, I'll grab them buddy, do you need the 390 caliper mounts too?

Sorry the Masser didn't work out, but it's great to see you and the green monster back again.

Thanks buddy 👍🙂

I'll check if I can get away with a 10mm precision billet washer between the caliper and carrier, that will push out the caliper to work from 360 to 390mm but will probably need a slightly longer bolt too👍 🙂

Touchwood the roter height is the same between the c63 and e63?

Check out the mod I did, installed an E55 8 pots on my Hemi and C63 6 pot calipers on the rear. I used 390mm fixed rotors from AMG GL but had to do a footbrake delete to the rear to accommodate the rear rotors. 🙂

I used these washer/spacer between the caliper and carrier. Will extend the caliper outwards. The one in the photo is 11mm, was sent the wrong size. Will need 4 longer caliper bolts though, minimum 8.5 tensile strength.

Hey buddy, yeah, I was gutted about the GTS, I'd already put alot of time and work into it, however a mechanical problem started that could be fully diagnosed even by a specialist, so the dealer reversed the deal, got my C63 back and all the money is spent on the car too.

Having the car back kinda made me realise what an idiot I was in the first place.

Don't get me wrong , the GTS is a lovely car, one experience that will always stay with me.. the cross plain Crank V8.. what an amazing sound

Lee, got any pics of the Maserati? knowing you it would've been a nice one. 🙂

Great work buddy.. I did wonder about just using a 15mm machined spacer myself, qe do the same thing with our race bikes.
Thanks buddy 👍 it definitely works. 15mm is correct, not 10mm, my typo. I've got some electric handbrake going in soon, calipers are from Tesla.

Are you going to get custom rotors made for the rear? There is 360mm rotor and caliper available from the w212 e63, which I believe could work. The height 68mm is a match, so can keep the footbrake, keeping with oem.

Is the part number starting R230 just a coincidence or are they also on any SLs of that era?

Yes buddy having Custom 2 piece Rotors made up.
The black series has 180mm hub, whereas the 507 has a 165..
So they are made with 165 lightweight hub with 360mm 2 pice Rotor to keep the oem foot brake.
Also having to change to the black series calipers as the legs are 15mm longer.

While we're on the subject of chassis.
Look what's arrived 😊.

It's hard to believe it's almost 2yrs since I decided to take the plunge into Coilovers, the majority of manufacturers don't offer standard ride height options, lowering my car 30mm wasn't something I wanted to do for the gain of better handling.

After hours and hours of research phone calls, I finally found a company that would build me a fully bespoke set.
Initially the project was supposed to take around 3/4 mnths, then Covid hit, Ohlins were bought out twice, the list of delays were endless.

Now 2yrs in they're finally here.
Bespoke built dampers with full ride height adjustability from 0-25mm.

Adjustable preload, Compression and rebound damping.
OE machined top mounts designed specifically for the dampers etc..
This is gonna be one hell of a transformation.
