Does the optional AMG sports suspension make a noticeable difference to the ride?

I’ve heard that it’s very firm.

Nice, but I'm biased...

That's strong money for the estate, even with low'ish miles.

If anyone is looking for an estate for sensible money, mine might be up for sale when I get back from Germany. Been looking at AMG GT's lately and the urge is getting stronger.

Can you give me some idea about how much you might want for it please, I can’t pm you.

I'm only a couple of posts away from hitting the magic 30 post pm unlock number. Once I've hit that I'll give you a shout. Will be cleaning the wheels tonight, off the car, so will more that likely post a couple of pictures. I'm sure someone was asking for better pics of the wheels in an earlier thread :thumb:

I have the sports suspension option and I really like the way the car handles with it. I can push better into corners and the steering feedback is spot on. It is a bit firm but my last car was a TVR Chimaera with a fast road suspension set up that was rather firm as well so the 507 feels perfect to me. It would be nice to go out in a car with the standard suspension one day and see if I can feel the difference but I wouldn’t expect there to be too much to be honest.

Very nice :thumb:

Can you post a few more pics side on of the alloys ? I’m contemplating changing my black ones for Himalaya Grey ;)

Andy, sorry for the massive delay in posting these by my car spends most of its time in the garage. Here are some pics of the Himalaya Grey alloys as they were off for a clean. Not much colour from the front face so I took a picture of the inside rim where there is lots of grey :)

OK, thanks.

I'm one of the supposedly 4% that chose this option on my facelift C63. Before buying I also drove a facelift car without this option and my reference point at the time was the E90 V8 M3. I think there is a lot of confusion about this suspension option and people assume it's the same as the pre facelift PP suspension - it's not. There were significant changes to the suspension as part of the facelift, and the optional AMG performance suspension gets it closer to the black series setup. I'm not sure if it's KW coilovers but I love it. Yes it's firm, but it's compliant, it feels very similar to my previous E90 M3 suspension with EDC, and gives fantastic body control and flat cornering. I found the standard suspension a bit wallowy. If I was speccing my car again I'd choose this option again in a heart beat.

Hi, I might he interested if you can PM me more details please

Surprised anyone is still having ATF done. I thought it was due at 3 years?

I usually get mine changed every year, along with coolant, rear diff, engine oil and brake fluid.

My opinion is, if it can be drained, it should be changed.

Thanks for this.

I’m sure that the suspension set up on the pre facelift cars is significantly different to the post facelift cars.

I have a pre facelift estate which, I think, does not have the optional sports suspension. A few years ago I drove gedo’s white estate and it was noticeably different to mine. No one has been able to tell me what the differences actually are, but I’m sure that there are differences. gedo’s car was noticeably smoother and softer than mine so I suspect that the spring rates are different.

Thought I'd post an update on our trip to the Nurburgring & Stuttgart/Affalterbach. Car performed flawlessly and we had a fantastic trip. Ring lap in a M5 Completion 'taxi' was breathtaking and was followed by a much more sedate lap in the 507. Had started spitting with rain so it was a tentative lap but got some great pictures from the trackside photographers who provide an invaluable service.

We visited the Jim Clark memorials in Hockenheim (the official trackside one and unofficial, deep in the forest one) where we left a thistle as a mark of respect.

In Stuttgart we visited the Mercedes Museum which is quite impressive however the highlight of the trip was our visit to the factory in Affalterbach. We were lucky enough to meet our engine builder, Tobias Schultz. He's now a supervisor and has hung up his tools but he was one of a handful of Black Series Engine Builders who have a black plaque on the famous AMG wall. I guess that's why he worked on the 507 engines as well, which are essentially a slightly de-tuned black series unit.

We were made to feel very welcome, had a fantastic tour and they loved the 507 wagon. Was shocked to see AMG employees taking pictures of my car on their phones! Maybe these are just as rare on the continent...

Overall we had a fantastic time and I'd recommend any AMG junkies to make the effort to visit the factory. They really appreciate customer visits and seem genuinely happy to see a customer bring a car 'back home'.

I’d love to go the factory, perhaps someone on here could organise a club trip to there and back? :)

I’m thinking of a road trip next year in September, possibly via Reims on way out and Spa/Bruges on way back. There have been a few great threads on here about routes, hotels, car museums to visit etc. and it all looks very straightforward :thumb:
