C63 Coupe "Soup to Nuts"

Your Nav settings must be configured to avoid main roads/highways. Have a dig around in the options.

I hadn't thought of that so just checked - haven't changed any settings on the sat nav since i picked the car up.

It is set to 'dynamic route' with no other options checked. Maybe changing it to fastest would change the result. I feel an experiment coming on. Trying to get from point a to b just using the sat nav in its various settings.

Indeed, Fastest Vs Shortest. I'm not sure which the Dynamic option would use, I guess it would take into account Traffic Alert data from TMC or whatever it is called. Set the destination again and then examine the route list and see which roads it is suggesting.

How the heck is everyone getting mpg in the 20's? I've done 222 miles in mine (about 80 motorway and the rest in london) and Im showing an average of 11.5 mpg! Mines 2010, though.

I'll be taking it to nottingham and back in a week or so, so will be interested to see if I get much better on the motorway!

If you don't then either you need to get it looked at or change up out of first gear occasionally...

In town the mpg can be pretty shocking if you are on and off the throttle a lot. The lowest i have seen in mine was just under 9 when it was brand new crawling in heavy city traffic. That 6.2L V8 really doesn't like a city...

On a motorway run 20 is easily achievable

Dynamic route should equal 'fastest' adjusted for any known traffic obstructions, so I do not think it is necessarily the setting that is causing the problem, but the assumption the software makes about achievable speeds on different types of road.

When we went to Devon on holiday earlier in the year my FIL was continually beating me to places in his Y reg Skoda Fabia + Garmin despite me hooning it in my then new car, as the MB satnav consistently believed I could achieve the NSL on the most miserable little blind lanes where 20mph was pushing it. A real weakness with the system. I have since had the map version updated and have had no incidents but then I have not done much rural driving in England to test it.

Not the update or pictures I planned on posting. Not by a long way...

At lunchtime today Brunnhilde had a run-in with a Vauxhall Combi van - literally. I was turning right into a side road, van driver was waiting to turn right out of the side road. Problem is he didn't wait long enough and neatly drove straight into the side of me hitting just ahead of the rear wheel. B*gger.

Nobody hurt and the guy seemed genuine - he simply didn't see me (altho quite how you miss a C63 with LED running lights if u r watching the road is a bit of a mystery).

Was a low speed to coming together but the AMG got the worst of it, as the van hit me with its bumper, so will just need a new one of those. My damage however is not going o be a cheap fix. With no back door to replace the damaged area is part of one large panel.

Details swapped and i have to say that MB Insurance (Aviva) were very good. As this is a no blame accident as far as i am concerned they will sort things with the other insurance co, and arranged a visit from the repair shop and a replacement vehicle very quickly (altho my car is still driveable).

So not a good day, but things can be fixed. Well they better be!

Nice 3/4 strides & sandles in picture 2! :p

^ LOL

Watch the bodywork quality of MB Approved, it is poor.

Nightmare. I cannot work out how he didn't see you unless he was driving with his eyes closed. I hope you get it sorted with the minimum of fuss.

Brunhilde goes into the body shop on Monday. The expected result is a large new panel and 2 wheels - one that was hit directly and one on the other side that was pushed onto the kerb. Work is expected to take 2 weeks.

While I am AMG-less I will be using a Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Westminster. Just a bit different then...

The last couple of weeks have also marked 6 months and 5000 miles of ownership. I was planning on a 6 month report next week - there is certainly plenty to mull over. Not all of it good I have to say, although the good usually outweighs the bad

Hope the quality of the repair is really good and you are pleased with the result.

Also enjoy the rangy.

This thread has been really useful as I am also new to MB having always been BMW. I am picking up my new C63 AMG coupe on Friday after I have exchanged my e92 M3. I drove the saloon and coupe and maybe an age thing but I just prefer the coupe look and it is also an easier transition from the M3 which I adore.
Looking forward to running it in like OP has although strangely enough the dealer said all new AMG had been per bench tested and run in anyway so didn't need to take it super easy?

Welcome Simon! I take it you test drove a C63? If so, how did you find it compared to your E92?

As for running it in, I work in the auto industry and can assure you that the engines will be fully extended prior to delivery (engine dyno at engine build plant, rolling road at end of production line and then a short dynamic test prior to shipping).

Personally I did not bother with the running in instructions for my engine, however I always wait until the oil is >100C before venturing over 4000rpm. However I did run in the gearbox/brakes/tyres by being gentle for the first few hundred miles. I think this is very worthwhile.

Just my 2p worth.

Cheers :-) appreciate advice

I went out in 2 2011/2012 saloons with dealers for around 15 minutes and then took out the 2012 test coupe on Saturday for about 10 minutes. Loved it. I don't expect it to have the point and shoot accuracy of the m3 but then the newness, interior etc are all other reasons I moved across.

My e92 was a manual and I do love the manual gearbox :-( I will just have to get use to it I guess.

For me the reason for the coupe/MB is the speed, looks, ability, interior and comfort. It ticks all my boxes so should be a good choice :-)

Welcome to the forums.

Although the engines are run extensively I still think it's worth taking it easy for a while to let the drivetrain bed in - and if there is an issue I don't want any excuses about invalidating warranties by red-lining from zero miles.

K

On the c63bs mb say max 4k revs for first 1k miles i think this applies to all the m156 engines.
