I think there is a school of thought that people who own these cars from new (lease/pcp/outright purchase makes no difference) are rather frivolous types whose main use is to look after the cars in advance of the day a true enthusiast can afford to run it. You think a nice day by the seaside, others think waxoyl, IronX etc circa 2020.
I think it boils down to one word 'jealousy' as far as i can work out it just a couple of guys that do it and they are best ignored. Banter is good but some of their comments have a distinct edge.

BigSilverEstate said:I am not sure it is really jealousy so much as adopting a position of moral superiority based on value judgements on (a) methods of financing vehicle purchases and (b) stage of the life cycle of the car when the car is purchased. Doesn't make much sense to me but I'm just an accountant.
Yep I think that just about nails it.
Really sad to see yet another useful thread potentially spoiled and taken off course by the usual sniping from one of the usual suspects.
Why would someone be jealous because someone goes and rents a car,or even if they bought it?!!I`m sorry mate but I can`t stand that thought
I slightly regret this comment as I didn't want to get involved in one of these er passing contests. Whilst I do think something like this school of thought exists on this forum, I also can see DM has a perfectly fair point which is that the ONE material way a lease or pcp differs from an outright purchase or HP is that the buyer has limited his exposure to future changes in the value of the vehicle. However I personally find it hard to believe this necessarily leads to a lack of care for the cars, any more than someone (like me) who buys outright with the intention of trading in 2-3 years later.BigSilverEstate said:I think there is a school of thought that people who own these cars from new (lease/pcp/outright purchase makes no difference) are rather frivolous types whose main use is to look after the cars in advance of the day a true enthusiast can afford to run it. After a 12% discount and small part-ex for the Golf I ended up with a 12,000 mile p.a., 36 month contract at £720 per month.
Straight back from the Body shop all shiny and new, and you park it straight up in the salty Sea water!
It's on a 36 month lease, why would He care?

Dieselman said:It's pretty simple really.
You rented a car so don't have to care about such things as underbody salt corrosion at the end of the lease period...just hand it back.
I even went back and checked your finance arrangement before commenting. You lot really need to contain your ego's a bit and start thinking.
HTH...

Well, you never know.
