Running in period over! To celebrate popped out for a quick blast over Salisbury Plain to explore a tiny bit more of the performance on offer. Happy to report all 451 horses seem to be present and rampant. One other nice little benefit of straying into the Sport+ transmission settings is the transformation in throttle response, and the animalistic growls, pops and bangs on downshifts. A brief throttle opening delivers a sound like a wookie gargling nails.

No unexpected costs since last report, although I did spend a small fortune on 'sundries' - new power wash, handheld vacuum (Dyson dc34 animal - very impressed by this little fella), plus assorted cloths, buckets and similar. Worth it tho, and the Stargard treatment is holding up well - water beads nicely and dirt and insects pretty much drop off with minimal effort leaving a deep shine.

As for the mpg question, it's 20. Nearly always. If you push on then this can drop to 15 or so but in normal driving 20mpg seems to be the standard. I did get a small moment of triumph when I returned 22.2 on a trip to Heathrow and back, but it's 20...

One issue arose during last week however. I have a rattle. It's an annoying high-pitched vibration type rattle that seems to be coming from around the passenger seat. I checked for loose cabling, passenger seatbelt, etc, but it's none of these. Seems to kick in at about 30mph and doen't quit all the way to motorway speeds. She's into mb Salisbury next week for a check-up.

Anyway, rattle aide, it's been a fun first couple of weeks and I'm sure there's plenty more to come

Thanks for the update!
Mine is averaging 23 at the moment but I have been careful with the throttle - only hit the 4500 rpm a couple of times. At 700 miles now. Be careful using a pressure washer too close to the paint. Not a good idea.

Any further updates from either Khamen or Seven? :)

I'm going to try to limit myself to an update a month or so going forward. Don't see much point listing every time I fill up at the pumps.

Having said that she was in at MB Salisbury yesterday to check for the elusive rattle. Sod's law dictates of course that as soon as you have an engineer in the car the thing disappears. Well they made a few "adjustments" based on what I described and no noises on the way home so hopefully the end of the matter.

I also asked them to check the bluetooth connection as for some reason the C63 has stopped picking up my phone. Bluetooth on the car works fine so must be my phone. Better check for updates.

I did get a E220 cdi estate courtesy car for the day, which was a little odd compared to the C63. Steering is nice and direct but incredibly light, and the seats were like sitting on a sofa. The weirdest thing however was stop/start. Every time I sotopped the engine cut out, which had me thinking that it had stalled first few times it happened...

MB Salisbury gave the car a good clean inside and out while it was with them as well, although torrential rain and thunderstorms on the trip home will soon have it looking grimy again. The magnetite black finish is stunning when clean but even worse than normal black when dirty.

Khamen please update us as often as you wish

you can turn that stop start stuff off if you like

Not signed up - want to get the engine bedded in properly before taking her onto track. Maybe late summer. Thruxton beckons - Church should be a riot... :)

2k crept up on me rather suddenly so Brunhilde is booked into the dealership tomorrow for the 2000 mile oil change for the slippy diff.

A few things over the last 1500 miles or so worth reporting on though. Firstly that rattle. There is definitely something knocking against something somewhere but it is intermittent and needs a really thorough look, and some experimental taping things down to try to track it down.

It's not particularly loud, just damned annoying when you hear it (if you know it's there you tend to pick it up really easily when it happens). Sounds like the passenger seatbelt vibrating quickly against the back of the front passenger seat, but have ruled that out. Will keep searching. Next thing to try - empty the glove box...

The other odd thing is an intermitent rattle from the centre of the dash, near the COMAND Online screen. This one is weird as it only happens rarely but is loud and sounds like a geiger counter going off the scale. It's not the sound system as I turned that all off and the noise was still there. Seems to go away if I tap the top of the dash. Will be keeping a close eye on this one for sure.

Would be interested to hear of any other owners with rattles around the trim.

Other than these two little annoyances I am impressed with the solid feel of the car, and overall the materials and build quality seem very good.

Out on the road the recent weather has not been particularly conducive to exploring the perfromance envelope, but it's clear the 6.2l V8 is in fine fettle. Thrust is instantly availabel but the way it piles on speed can be deceptive, and you have to keep an eye on your speedo - on more than one occasion I have looked down to find I'm actually going 20mph faster than I thought I was. What makes this sometimes frustrating is that the real kick in the back when everything hooks up really comes on line from about 60mph, and you quickly have to back off or you will soon get into license-threatening territory.

Fuel economy has been improving as the engine loosens, but of course it's never going to be what you would call frugal. 20-ish mpg seems to be the norm with maybe 22 on long motorway runs and as low as 16 when hooning about the B-roads.

One quick warning on those wheel arches and lovely alloys tho. The C63 is not what you would call an agile car but it has a quick and very direct steering rack. It is also longer than you may think. Net result is you need to be really careful when turning into tight kerb-lined junctions as it is all-too-easy to graze the alloys. I found this out pulling away from the dealership car park - passenger side was parked alongside a kerb and i was turning right out of the space. I didn't give it enough room and net result one very lightly scratched ( but still bloody annoying) rim. Always give yourself a bit more room than you need. Those big front arches can cause issues as well if you have a narrow garage door. As they flare out beyond the wings it can be very tight fully reversing into narrow spaces. No dramas here, but you need to be on your toes, as you can't see the full width from the driver seat.

So, rattles and muppetry with wheels aside, all going well.

Hi, quick update.
Ordered car on 23 march, had a call to say car will be delivered on the 29 may instead of 3 July :) Cant wait.
Will keep you updated.

I have actually noticed there is a thread about annoying rattles in the dash on C63s in a thread on the AMG Lounge thingy.

Guess it's not just me

Hey

Not posted many posts so a little new...

Sounds like you're having a great time with the new AMG Khamen!!

Interesting thread. Collected my new C63AMG coupe last week. I immediately heard a rattle after my first 100 miles but thankfully it seems to have gone for the moment. Fingers crossed.

I'll keep you updated if it changes. I have noticed a high pitched squeal coming from somewhere when driving on a smooth road with the radio on.....?

That aside amazing car, and can't wait to get over the running I'm period.

I'm Hampshire based, are there any meets locally ?

Cheers

I'm in Lymington, work Hamble way. Still running in at the moment. Slight squeak from my dash too, press down on ledge in front of Comand screen makes it go.

Thanks, I'll have to give that a go....

We should see if we can get a group of us together...

P.S the estate looks so good...!!!

Who have you ordered through? MB direct?

I ordered my car on the 7th March and still do not have either a build or delivery date :(:(:(

I ordered it through inchcape MB in Derby, who have been great, so far.
Told me I will be updated each week!

You should definitely have a build date by now. I would chase them up over this.
Good to hear you're enjoying yours Khamen. I have had a couple of rattles and squeaks but they seem to have dissipated. Worst one was a really annoying knocking from the passenger side that I eventually traced to the seatbelt clip banging against the hard frame on the side of the seat.

I assumed mine was the seatbelt clip banging but I taped it down and still got the noise. The one in the centre of the dash is more of a pain as it is louder and seems to be something a few people have found with C63s.

Slippy diff oil change done in an hour this morning and a quick wash at the dealership. First litre of Mobil 1 in (although I got this from Halfords rather than let the dealer charge me extra for unscrewing a cap and emptying some sludge into it). £16.99 at Halfords for 1 litre of the 0w/40 Mobil 1.

Anyone use a different oil?
