C63 Head Bolts + Supercharger Stage 2 @ MSL

I must admit I'm very shocked at this with these engines being so well engineered! :(

Is that water marks on cylinder n2 or scoring mate?:thumb:

My head bolts are getting changed out at the weekend for ARP studs, so it will be interesting to see what state my bolts are in ( 24000 miles on clock)

''Having watched the manufacturing process and the quality regime I would doubt that'' :D

Ok. It Looks like it's going to be a debate lol. I have also watched the manufacturing process. And yes it looks very clean and thorough. But it still doesn't alter the fact that this engine has rolled of the production line 20,000 miles ago. In the 20,000 miles of its short life what could have possibly been done to this engine to explain 2 loose head bolts?? Other than the fact they wasn't torqued to the correct figure in the MB factory.

Years ago when engines was rebuilt you would have to torque head bolts to manufacturers settings then after running in you would then have to re torque as head bolts would stretch. That maybe the case nowadays but if MB choose to let the cars go out without recalling to re torque or whatever then it's still surley down to them? The owner of this car surley didn't pay some indie to take the head of for any reason in the 20,000 mile mark wich would be the only reason it wouldn't be a build fault.

No, Felstmiester no debate from me. I just quoted somebody else on this thread. :D

If those 20k miles are track only then it's not a build fault. Sorry but a 2008 car with 6 years at 20k has been used for a weekend lets drive it hard. Not 60k and motorway mileage.

It sounds a one off doesn't it?

The best bit is Acid has his hands It and it's getting the Weistec treatment!!!

I Don't want to turn this thread into a mass debate but with 20,000 miles how can it not be??
So you know the full maintenance history of that particular engine then?

First rule of Engineering Failure Analysis (EFA): Assume Nothing.

Build Has Finished the First Stage

Customer Has taken car and has been driving the car and all is well.

The car will return to us next week for the Stage 2 Supercharger , Killer Chiller and Ice Tank install.

Acid,

Is that for ease of re-torquing the head bolts or just to check there is no more water ingress?

Cheers Stu
