C63 purchasing

Went to see Skyfall yesterday - some spectacular footage of Scottish scenery in the film. Could have sworn I saw a silver C Class in the distance!! Would you happen to know where it was. Glen Coe?
Actually, the Scottish scenes were filmed in Surrey! :D

Very realistic though!

Apart from the heather this wall is fibre glass with fake moss and lichen! Incredible detail!

Interesting, but I was actually referring to the footage of the Glens that *** has photographed so superbly on this forum. Don't suppose we'll be seeing any more for a while :dk:

Tangents dear boy, tangents.

I noticed yesterday that my c63 coupe which is less than a month old has Yokohama tyres fitted:rolleyes: I dont know much about tyres but I thought Yokohamas were a budget tyre and the C63 usually came shod with Continentals. Is it merc trying to save a few quid? Can anyone advise me on this please

Yokohamas are not budget and tend to be performance orientated. I had them on my C55.

MB buy tyres from all over.

Thanks very much Charles I didnt know that.

I thought they all came with continentals maybe they got a job lot of Yokahamas on the cheap and I was one of the poor sods who got them:confused: I think manufactureres should specify what tyres are fitted to a new car, I know nothing about Yokahamas but suppose I just need to trust Mercs judgement on this:dk:

Yokahama make top notch tyres including for racing for the past 30 years... the issue with sport cars is that certain tyres better suit the car's characteristics and I do not know for fact which tyres work best on the C63. But I can assure you that as a brand Yokahama are up there with the best and can by no means be described as cheap or budget tyres.

HTH

OK, thanks. Maybe Merc have decided that the Yokohamas perform better on the coupe, but my money is still on them getting a good deal on a job lot or continental had problems supplying. It would be interesting to know from someone in the know!!! Thanks anyway.

I think you could well be right. I know many suppliers are asked to reduce their piece price by x% year on year during the production cycle. With the volumes of C63 that seem to be selling even if they saved £20/car that would amount to a significant sum and I doubt most customers would even notice - they're all black after all :)

Wow. I know its your forum and you have the right to ban or allow anyone you choose - but don't you think a permanent ban is a little over the top ?

I'd like to think that on reflection it may be seen that it takes two to tango and situations can become very heated.

Seems a shame to lose a decent contributor and someone that has joined in with "club life", permanently over a bit of a spat.

It's not my forum and they aren't my rules, so after all I don't call the shots, but...perhaps after a cooling off period...??

indefinite is not the same a permanent ..

indefinite can be made definite

I don't disagree, it is a possibility.

However, generally speaking the main reason that manufacturers buy identical parts from more than one supplier (e.g. brakes, alternators, etc) is to ensure that they are not dependent in one supplier, and the same goes for tyres.

Which is why - other than particular sport models - cars are almost always supplied with tyres from a range of manufacturers.

100,000 signatures should get the ball rolling....;).
