Camera Detectors

I have Origin b2 on both cars and have had them for a few years now very small and very affective.

I used to use B2 and agree they were brilliant and the replacement for them the pogo alert is fantastic too :thumb:

Sooo.... speaking purely hypothetically...

If I were to buy a garage door opener, or a parking sensor (always wanted a parking sensor on my W202...)...

Which would you recomend?

Also, I'm assuming as they are on the same frequency as laser guns, they don't interfere with GATSO-type radar systems, right?

Purely hypothetically of course!

yes, laser parking devices are better, strength of laser light is stronger than garage door openers ;) No effect on Gatso which is based on K band radar.

You could get a satnav and just use that for speed alerting, Garmin use the Cyclops database. Useful then for other cars as you have satnav as well as speed alerting, it also shows the speed limit for the current road.

And, of course, legal in every country!

I had a Bel990 in my sierra, was very effective, but just use the Garmin now. If I were to add anything it would be a GDO :)

I run the PGPSW speed camera database on my TomTom for Europe but even then they are ilegal in certain European Countries where it is an offence to warn of any speed detection device even on sat nav. In these countries they will actually seize your sat nav and issue an on the spot cash fine often up to €1000

The Cyclops database on the Garmin is next to useless voted and tested as second worst just behind the Snooper Aura database. Best by a mile is PGPSW and so cheap.

Well I now have a new Road Angel Professional sitting on my desk, just got back from Halfords with it. As most of youi said the snooper doesnt have a very good rep with them either and have had a lot of issues with it so glad I didnt end up with one of those, thanks to Ian...Cheers bud.

Got to be packed away now for Xmas.....:(

Plus I had my first drive of the C63 today which was fourth time lucky with my local dealer even though I put my order in for one 2 months ago. Very impressed with the car and loved the noise. The salesman thought he would have a go at trying to scare me in it in which when it was my turn to drive the car I think he gained a few more grey hairs and kept telling me to keep within the road limits grabbing the dash. Roll on the next 2 months.

Glad you got sorted mate and happy with your purchase, Sure the C63 will bring a bigger smile to your face when you get it :D

Cheers Ian...yes thanks for all the advice on which detector to go for. I think I have definately made the right choice due to your help.

Loved the C63 today, was a bit scepticle due to all the hype about them but now undertand why there is so much about these cars....what a piece of kit it really is. Even though the missus is more excited about the trip to Stuttgart and the forth coming German Xmas markets than getting the car itself. LOL

What about those horrible forward facing Truvelo cameras?

Correct even if you have parktronic and a secondary laser parking device fitted it is perfectly legal, they can't prosecute you for having two of the same thing. To prosecute you for jamming laser signals they would have to prove thats what you fitted the device for and that is impossible. If you have a parking device or garage door opener fitted you will not be prosecuted for jamming speed laser guns. The police are not even allowed to come and check if you have a garage door opener fitted on your garage. There is already presedence set in the courts so until the law is changed banning 904 nm laser light control devices they are perfectly legal

Can you provide the reference for the precedence? I've looked and can't find it...

Which countries does this apply in?

I know this has happened in France, but it was subsequently stated officially that GPS-based warnings are OK there.

I think I saw a review on fifth gear think they went with the angel pro as the all arounder detected more and easier to update the data base. They did show a 1500£ laser detector but I recon as you say once they got u locked u better pay up.

There is one more option - stick to the speed limit lol

I can when SWMBO is back on Monday.:thumb:

Any chance of following upon this?

I know someone who is facing charges relating to this - solicitor is not a traffic specialist and the guy can't afford one (reckons pleading guilty and taking the rap will be cheaper).

It would be good to help him out if possible. :thumb:

Sorry forgot all about this, SWMBO currently out but will write it on the kitchen pad so I don't forget tomorrow.

Our pal who is a barrister also gets brought in by a very specialist traffic lawyer when things get heavy, so if you want to PM me some details of the charges I'd be more than happy to run them past him as well, as he will be here for Sunday lunch tomorow.

detectors are defo illegal, esp in france, im still unsure about the jammers being legal here in the uk, but i`ll step aside as im not 100% on that one.
