Can anyone recommend 501 W5W LEDs for a pre facelift W204 that won't melt ?

Same. It's a shame because the LEDs all match the Xenon colour temp perfectly and looked really smart.

I'd rather put up with the dull orange (blue bulb 501s) than the continual stress of watching every set of LEDs I buy either go out or start flickering.

Been fine in my CLK with Xenons for months now but seems to be a 204 issue. Anyhow give it a try for £6

Yeah I have gone through a few of them. I got a box of eight or ten and went though them like tea light candles. I’ll see if I can find a load of the melted ones of all different varieties and get a pic.

I’ve got dozens all off eBay and Amazon for the last 3.5 years I’ve had the car. Thrown away more than I’ve kept as some of them haven’t melted, they just start flickering or go out. Most also flicker and come on and off in the foot wells too so I’ve had to revert to bulbs in there too. Seems the car’s electrics is over volting them.

Honestly, you’re right it is specific to the W204. Most just give up.
