Hi All,

I bought a new (new to me) car last week, just looking through the service manual and the pre inspection was done in Germany (the previous owner did point this out to me at the time of sale), does this make my car an import? A week after the car was inspected it was registered in the UK. and has remained here for the last 10 years.

your thoughts please,

K

Thanks Mudster and Renault12ts, that is what I was thinking as the previous owner did say it was collected from Germany. Maybe one of the guys who have collected from the factory would be able to shed some light (palmball, maff)

So as far as insurance are concerned its not an import??

Is there a stamp or similar on the pre-delivery check form?

...does this make my car an import?
[PEDANT MODE]

All MB's are an import to the UK :p ;)

[/PEDANT MODE]

As others have said, it was most likely a Factory Collection car but the V5 document will confirm the vehicle's status: If it says "Declared new by the importer/concessionaire" or words to that effect then it's not a parallel import. If it says "Declared new in GB by independent importer" then it's a parallel import.

Will check when I get home, Thank you.

My car came from Germany as well. It didn't go through the GB Dealer. Can I get any information about this like the pre-delivery inspection or the fact that it was a factory collection?

Well just checked the service manual and it is an official BMW headquarters stamp :ban:, so it could have been a collection, but will double check once I receive the log book back. However when i checked the log book all seemed to look as normal, but will double check.

Thanks,

Haha, yeah I thought the same. Oh well never mind I got the car for a good price and its fully loaded so I cant complain. Will check the log book, the only reason I would like to know is for insurance purposes, they sometimes ask whether the car is an import.

Thanks for all the help guys, and don't worry I'm still driving a Mercedes :D

I thought that as long as it has an EU conformity certificate insurers don't worry..
I have imported two Honda Cr-vs that way. One made in Japan and imported via Cyprus and the other made in Swindon and imported via Netherlands to .......a village near Swindon ...hmmmm:confused:
Both had EU conformity certs and insurers didn't bat an eyelid..:thumb:

loads of service books we get through have been stamped in Germany... one time i got into some bother as a customer tried to return his car as he thought it was an undeclared import not a UK supplied car... so i asked him to come to my office and i showed him a handful of other service books all with their PDI stamped in germany.

Sorry I'm probably just looking too far into this, I have already arranged insurance for the car, just that I don't want something like not declaring the car is an import to invalidate the insurance. The car was found on their database with no problem by just using the Reg number. So I'm probably just panicking for no reason.

Thanks again,

K

Can't speak for newer cars, but my 1987 Classic car that I imported from Sweden has a V5C that states the following:

Was registrered and/or used. Declared manufactured 1987.

Nowhere on the V5C does it say that the car is actually an import......

How can I get hold of the PDI for my vehicle? Or am I not allowed it?

It is not there :( This could be the second service handbook I have. Is there any other way? I think I am at a dead end as MB UK say they can not help me and the dealership in Germany say we never had this car.

Any suggestions?

Most appreciated
