Time-serts are a permanent fixture so servicing injectors is easier as a repeatable exercise.

Personally I hate Helicoils due to having seen so many fail on jobs that have come into me.

Never seen helicoils approved in F1 and the aviation industry but T-serts are, and MB recommend them :)

.

We use helicoils on rolls Royce engine components which rolls supply! Silver coated too so the bolts come undone again after all the heat generated. I do think the time serts are a better method for your needs.

I've done probably well over a hundred MB injector clamp bolts using Helicoils as part of my business and never had one failure. I also carry Time serts in my van but rarely use them. I even use Helicoils when I do work for MB dealers.

Please this isnt a helicoil bashing thread :)

I also use them, i just did a Selespeed gear box accumulator that had been incorrectly fitted and the thread destroyed in a blind hole, helicoil was the better option rather than gear box removal due to space constraints.

My first post explains its my preferred method of repair for this particular problem and why.

Cheers

I have been cursing a previous owner all day after finding my ML270 had the "wrong" M6 stainless hex screws holding the injectors in. Now I've found this post and realise it's an official fix I need to eat humble pie. I really appreciate the op posting this as it is the first place I've seen anything about this work around and the torque settings are a massive help.
I just need to remove the one stubborn injector and all will be well again. One question what will free it up best, carb cleaner or coke!?

Hi

If the engine runs let it get to normal temp @ 90'

I use a mix of diesel and carb cleaner and allow it to soak.

You can do it with the engine running or if the engines a non starter
overnight .

It can take a few days if the engines non running just keep at it twisting and soaking the injector/s

If you search google for "black death" it might give you some extra tips that suit your purposes.

i have the problem, its in to the specialist who says he can`t repair it as has already been done badly and theres no more space, so a new cylinder head is required, does anyone know the rough costings for this ?

cheers

How big is the hole currently? Has it had a helicoil/timesert or just a tapped out hole?

As a very rough guess, I would imagine the labour alone on a cylinder head would be around £500

It depends on the engine type firstly.

I have never had one I couldn't repair, if your near enough to me I could help you out.

can anyone please help, I have stripped to holes for the clamp on the injectors and wa wondering car I just use a slighty bigger, and sorter bolt to rethread the holes....

First firstly a big thanks for Ann the info . I have now done the repair. (After much swearing and a broken slide hammer) teplaced 3 in an hour. The other took a day Only had one that the threads were damaged on. Still got a leak though . I can see how the counter sink allows the

Oops

Clamp to seat with uniform pressure. Don’t think I’ll get a proper seal without an M8 countersunk washer to allow the clamp to move slightly to get a true seal.
If that makes any sense .
Found a place in uk that do them unfortunately have to wait a week before they arrive
