CL63 - disappointing sound

Went for a look at one of these today. Absolutely stunning in the flesh and ticked all the boxes for what I want, except for one (the biggest box ) - the noise.

After having sold my CLS55 I've had an AMG shaped hole in the garage ever since and upon hearing a C63 I knew it would need to be filled again. C63's sound the absolute business but I want something more executive hence the CL63.

All set and excited today I was left feeling cold when the salesman started the 6.2 engine up. No cracks, No pops, No hair standing on the back of my neck and No smiles.

I want one of these cars -but it must sound C63/SLS -esque. Is it possible and at what expense / welding / cutting / *******ising?

I happened to follow a CL63 through a tunnel on Saturday and it sounded pretty good to me!!

As standard the exhaust will be tuned for a little more refinement compared to the C63, but if you want some of that dialled back out again, then all you need to do is speak to a tuner or two.

Quite easy to improve the exhaust note, just speak to Imran or Acid @ MSL :thumb:

As for cost, it depends on how far you want to go: headers, cat delete, x-pipe, back boxes or any combination of these.

LeeC63 + Scottish Blue have an IPE vavletronic system fitted, so you get the both of both worlds quite when you want refined and at the push of a button LOUD, or like myself and ChrisA you can just have LOUD all the time :D

what reg are you looking at? i assume your pre-2010 due to the 6.2 reference as later cars are bi turbo.

There are lots of options available for you.

Give me a shout if you need any info :)

cheers

Per the above.

If it's a biturbo then he and I have both been down the same route specifically to address the noise situation making use of solutions provided by two of the excellent forum sponsors. Happy to discuss these and provide video/audio if needed.

If it's an n/a 6.2 I'm surprised but as Matt says there are lots of options.

I chopped my E63 in for the CL63 (bi) as both me and the dealer where taken aback with the noise it made. Remember that you sit in such comfort with "double glazing" etc, that the noise inside is not as you think it is.

First day I had it, I tore past this Golf GTI on salisbury plain, and he followed me all the way to the next garage (almost 20 miles) and pulled alongside me and jumped out shouting "man that noise was like a fighter jet","I ****ed myself"..

The noise, with the turbo whistle turns more heads than a "load" exhaust does.
Its wonderful.

Do you know that RENNTech do a Turbo upgrade (with ECU) for $11,000.
833 BHP and 980 Ilbs ..

I am sooooo tempted..

I agree my bi-turbo sounded great under full acceleration but is now in a different league with the Rado pipes installed it sounds well evil!! If a keep it long enough I might consider the turbo's.
