clk coupe purchase

If I do purchase the car, can a xenon hid kit be fitted or if I manage to find some original xenons would these be plug and play

The xenon kit would be much easier to source and fit than to either source or fit the original bi-xenon lights.

which xenon kit do you recommend, will it be plug and play and no coding required

looks impressive was it plug and play with no coding required

Pretty much plug and play, but I had to purchase an adaptor from China so I could use my existing GPS antenna.

I have not had any coding done, but I might need to when the clocks go forward.

How about these they were recommended to me by someone who has a clk who had xenons and sold them and purchased the ones in the link instead and claims they are better than the xenons

FK Automotive Tuning Shop | Daylight headlight Mercedes CLK Typ W209 Yr. 04-09 chrome | purchase online

Someone on here has a similar set to these, cant recall the name of the thread.

If you decide to go for the HID kit, go for the 35w kit with no higher than 6k bulbs, unless you want a strong blue output, which will be the 8/10k

cant find the post :( 6k will be the max i'd like to go to get the oem look, do you know whether any coding will be required

It should be plug and play, I have had it on my previous car so can't remember the exact kit or supplier, just make sure that you go for the slim ballast kit in 35w, just pick a reputable supplier that offers warranty on the kit and double check that it will be error free on the CLK.

I have found xenon to be far superior to halogen in my previous car and would have fitted hid to my current car had it not had factory fitted xenon.

Cheers! i'm going to try and find the other post again reference the headlights from fk and check whether they are better than the hid kit and then decide which to go for

I recently fitted a Chinese unit to my pre-facelift interior 2004 CLK.
It works very well and the steering wheel controls work, and I had to fit an external handsfree mic as the built-in mic was too quiet.

Also I retro-fitted the digital climate control which I imported from the USA for £40.

Really interested in how these perform, was seriously considering the face lift option due to the number of features. How is the sound quality?

the headlights don't appear to be 'xenons' I think I may stick with the hid kit open cheaper, is it easy to install?

the rear lights look good, seem to be a copy of the rear lights you see on the BM's

They're easy to install as it is a simple plug and play application, the hardest part is probably drilling a hole in the headlight housing cover for the wires to go through. Other than that it is a simple disconnect and connect game. I would affix the ballasts somewhere dry, I've used cable ties for mine, but guess there are all sorts of ways that you could affix them.

Just watch a youtube tutorial prior to going ahead, so that you are aware of the process.

Yeah, the rear LED's modernize the CLK, I would happily have them - although would prefer to see it all in person first.

One thing to listen for is any loud "clicking" from the air outlets when you first start the car; there are little stepper motors in these and other areas (quit a few) that activate the flaps and do a self test on start up, so if you hear clicking the little gears and or motors need changing. Can be quite pricy if done by Mercedes as access to some they will say, are a dash out job although indies have worked out other ways to get to them and replace them.

Cheers! There is a lot of listening out to do! my sense of hearing will be working overtime!

The sound quality is at least as good as the original Command unit and there is an MCU firmware update on my KGL version that further improves the sound and I only have standard speakers.
The FM radio reception is also very good.

There are several variants of these Chinese units and I guess there may be luck involved in finding a good variant.

Mine is an MTCB quad core RK3188 Android 4.4.4 1080x600 which I got from an ebay seller in Spain.

Worthy modification ;)

Shame! :( any members out there from Coventry or local to Solihull, would appreciate a second pair of eyes to come with me

Only 1 key with the vehicle - how much will it cost to acquire another key?

also the SH majority was done at mercedes wolverhampton, seller does not have the invoices but the book is stamped, if I call mercedes wolverhampton could they provide the me the invoices?

also should I be concerned one service was done at 25,573 and the next at 40,946 so there is a difference of 15,373 which the seller is claiming the garage where the vehicle was purchased did a basic service but no evidence provided
