Hi-

Please can someone show me where the location of the engine coolant temprature sensor is?

(Not the one under the coolant tank)

Car: w209 clk 270 om612 engine.
Same as some ML's, E class & s class'.

Any help or diagram would be helpful.

If it's the temperature sender ( not level sensor) then I believe it is located in the thermostat housing.
Thermostat on my ML270 is at the front right ( when looking in towards the car - passenger side uk) of the engine just above the oil filter cap ( need to remove engine cover). The electrical connector on that does to the temperature sender.
Hope that helps ( sorry if it's not what your after).
Why do you want that? If it's via your reading a low coolant it's probably the thermostat that's died (very very common with this engine- changed mine last year)
All the best.

I meant low temperature not low coolant sorry

Hi MOZ,
Thanks for a quick reply.

Problem: My diesel stalls when selecting gear on cold starts.

When the engine is turned on, it runs and idles fine in P PARK, as soon as I select D DRIVE or R Reverse, the car struggles and cuts out in seconds.

I've heard that the engine coolant temperature sensor acts like a choke when it communicates with the ECU.

Warm starts & hot days are fine.

P.s. Just changed the turbo and it's a fault that happened soon after this, so will clean the egr system out with spray cleaner.

Any thoughts or experience will help
Thanks

Sorry can't help really, not had that issue and to be fair haven't read much about it ( having read a lot about the 270 since buying ours 18 months ago I haven't come across that issue ( to be fair as I've not had the problem then maybe I've not been seeing other posts about it).
Only issues I've seen with stalling has been the common air in the fuel lines but don't see why this would cause a cold start issue over a hot one and when you engage a gear ( add extra load). Could be a temperature fuel compensating thing as you say, but as I say I'm not the one to advise on this, hopefully someone else will chip in to help you. I assume it runs fine when up to temperature?

The sensor I'm on about is here in the photos

I'll find the problem.
Normally a hot start problem is crank shaft but I've never had a cold start problem until now.

Photos are perfect thanks !
